HELP!!! My life is ruined by my ex!!!

So I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me and I end up speaking to this new "guy" on the phone one night, when I redialed after she hung up (was leaving) and he answered, JUST GET OVER, I'm HORNY! This was about three months ago and I was cool with that, although we had been dating for 3 years and I was crazy about her, but you know, cheating just isn't cool.

So anyways, I called her out on it next time I saw her and she said it was her but no, she went home. I told her that I called and talked to this jerko down in Florida where she was on this trip. Next she gets peeved because I don't "trust her". Like I had REASON to! So I get some of the story and this and that, and finally she emails me all of the older emails she had with him. I'm talking hot and steamy emails with polish sausages, etc.

Next about a week later my buddy calls me and tells me he just got a lot of older emails from my ex. He said that she also said that I "made" her do this crap and this and that. Next I start getting calls from a LOT of my friends regarding these emails, and I'm not sure who got it because it was BCC'd to anyone. They thought it was hot and funny though, so all was well.

A week goes by, I'm forgetting as best as possible. THEN...I get a lady friend calling because I wrote this email to her boyfriend about how she treats him wrong, and I SENT it. I'm sorry, but this ex of mine hacked my hotmail account and sending my sent mail to people that don't deserve it. I was called into the boss this morning about some emails I sent to my family explaing how stupid the idiot marketing people we have are. This may jeopardize my job, and probably already has. Is there is anything I can do legally to make her pay for what she did. I don't want to stoop to her level because she is a loser.

Any way to find out which IPs logged into my account? Is there a way to contact Microsoft with this sort of situation? Do they track IPs or anything? I really need something in hard evidence by Wednesday when I consult with my attorney.

I'm thinking a personal civil suit of $1 million for ruining my reputation. That'd show her! I don't want to send her to jail, but is there any sort of criminal charge I can "threaten" unless she stays away? And no, as well all know (from Next Friday), restraining orders don't work.

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Are there Internet laws regarding idiots ruining my life and hacking accounts? Even if I have the IPs though, how would I prove it, etc?

I'm also in another state than she is.

Thank you all for your help, I really need it!

Peace,
GermyBoy

That's too bad. Sounds like you've had a really hard time, but at least she will be easier to forget and hate now ;) I don't think that there is any way of proving that she did anything. I would just abandon the account. What is your employer doing searching your private hotmail account anyway? Change all your passwords and go slash the tires on her car. Preferably when she is at her new boyfriend's house. Maybe write some nasty stuff on her car about her with permanent marker. Then call the cops and tell them that you broke up with her and she threatened you will all sorts of stuff and that you might need protection because she really lost it. If she calls the cops, your word will be taken over hers (at least at first) because you called first. If she does anything else, you can call the cops and say that you think she did it. Get a restraining order against her, then follow her around (but don't make it obvious). When you see her in the store or something, make a big fuss about the restraining order and how she must leave the store immediatly. Make her regret it all for the rest of her life!

Wow, that really sucks. I do like the "I was horny" excuse though, I'll have to remember that one.

Anyway if you can prove that it was someone else that hacked into your accounts you job should be ok, it would be the same as if some random person did it. Contact her ISP and hotmail and get the proof you need for your job.

clear out your address book in hotmail.

Dont use hotmail anymore

change the pass on it if you have access to it.

hack it back into your possesion. I think you can have proof with the e-mails. Cant they track it to some extent? impersination or something.

Actually you may be able to prove the e-mails aren't from you if she is in another state.
Have someone send you the header from the e-mail they received. Hotmail puts the following in the header.
X-Originating-IP: [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] the xxx's will have the ip of the person sending it.
So if someone send you a hotmail and worked at microsoft you'd probably see.
X-Originating-IP: [207.46.230.220] which resolves to microsoft.com.

You can probably at least save your job by having someone forward a copy of the email to you and reading the headers. Odds are the ip will show something that it's from the state she is in.

In all of Hotmails email's they include the IP of the sending computer in the headers of the email. You can then use that IP information to supenoa the ISP in question that owns the IP to obtain connection records for who was using that IP at the time of transmittal. This information would include the account information of the person and would pin it to an exact individual.

If she's using your ISP account you are screwed (unless the ISP is dialup and the ISP uses caller ID on their lines and it wasn't blocked). Why did she know your passwords anyway? Jesus man, have some security.

You let a girl hack into your account!?!?!? Oh yeah, the one you expect the least, is the most dangerous one.

Well, what's done is done.

When it comes to bad emails being sent to HR or your boss, the trick is to "deny everything". If it was sent from hotmail to your company. They would have no proof that you did it. You can said something like someone else pretending to be you.

I'd contact a lawyer. If nothing else, maybe some contact with the authorities will make her see that she isn't in 8th grade anymore.

No I didn't "let" a girl hack into my account, and my password was randomly generated (14 characters) so she must have seen it and written it out over time or something.

Can I get a list of the IPs that logged into my hotmail account somehow? I am sure she would've logged into it sometime while I was at work, and then I can prove that I was here, and she was there and clear my name with the boss.

Didn't think of the whole lie and say I don't know anything line while I was being talked to by the boss. Brain isn't that creative when your balls are about to be chopped up.

Use the headers of each email to track down the time they were sent and what IP they were sent from.

Well can't I sue her using the Digital Millenium Copyright Act? I called the police tongiht and reported the incident. They wasted 2.5 hours of my time. Told me absolutely nothing. However, I was told to talk to an attorney which I have scheduled for Wednesday.

Thanks for the support everyone, at least there is a concensus here that I'm not at fault (for once in my life).

DevilsAdvocate is studying his butt off so he can take a test and go to work for you. You'd have to wait a couple weeks, though. Give 'im a PM.

Get as much coke as you can buy, put it in her car, and let loose the cops. While she is getting screwed for 10 years in prison be sure to visit regularly and talk about all the hot new friends you have, and ask if hers is still visiting her there, or that her cellmate is her friend now.

Sucks for you. $1 million is a lot though, I doubt you'd get it. Go for something more reasonable, like $200K or something. Be sure to throw in everything you can:
Financial Damages, Emotional Damages, etc. :D

it's not a hack, but an exploit and a rather simple one.

microsoft should have fixed it by now, but they consider all of their security bugs either minor or "features!"

anyway, its that if they copy your hotmail cookies after u've logged in then they can check your e-mail without having to log in at all. changing the password will not help because one of the cookies allows permanent automatic access and that cookie doesnt expire for like 10 years, so nice job at security, microsoft.

try calling the local police and having them repo' ur ex's computer. when they do that, they take everything [fbi does this to any suspected hacker] even the power cords and printers and such. ;)

if u don't check ur e-mail thru browser, and instead thru outlook or something, then they prolly did hack ur account, or found a different exploit, msft if full of 'em
