Help! My laptop keeps shutting down!

Oyeve

Lifer
My laptop is a dual boot (WinME, Win2k) at variable times it will just shut down. This only happens in WinME. It hasnt happened in win2k. Sometimes It is idle and shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dual boot is very hard to manage in a laptop because of the different power management schemes. You start that in BIOS, then you really have to make each bootable OS run the same way. If you are always on the A/C adapter, then you can just about disable it, and it should be OK.

Check your ME settings in Control Panel, Power Options and set it to "Always On." Then you can go from there.

This config has been this way for months. I Think I MAY have found the problem. The only difference between the 2 settings was that Winme had my ipaq setup in that os. I just install active sync on my win2k setting and synced my ipaq up and 10mins later win2k just shut down. I have had my ipaq and this laptop in this configuration for months without a problem. When I said I think I MAY have found the problem is because early last week I upgraded (downgraded?) to PocketPC 2002! There must be something with the PPC OS and my system. MS sucks. 🙂 If anyone uses PPC 2002 LMK if you have had weird probs with it. In the meantime I will search the forums for PPC 2002 stuf. Thanks.
