i have windows 2000pro and i had trouble making it detect correctly so i used the maxtor software to make it detect as 2 80gig partitions. I had 3 HDs of data i wanted to move into my new 160gig HD so i moved the 1st HD into the 1st partition and the 2nd HD into the 2nd partition and it went smoothly. Then i moved the files from my 3rd HD into the 2nd partition and suddently my files from my first partition started becoming inaccessable. Then i turned off my comp and took the HDs out and when i started my comp up again with only the 160gig HD(thats in 2 80gig partitions) it said something was wrong and so i let it continue and it started deleting all the files from the first partition (they prolly got over written)!!! help!

system specs:
win2kpro + SP3 + all critical updates
1ghz P3
azza U694BC mobo
256 pc133 ram
GF 5200FX (borrowed for now :) )
30gig maxtor (paritioned to 10/20) this ones fine
160gig maxtor (80/80)

There is about 60.88gigs total in both partitions added up in the 160gig maxtor (1st partition has 4.38gigs now, 2nd partition has 56.5gigs)

My bios is was detecting my HD as a 30gig at first now its detecting as a 137gig but windows detects it as 2 80gig partitions. I was thinking of flashing my bios but i never did it B4 and i dont know how. I found a new bios update or something from azza driver page but its some kind of .b12 file and i dont know what to do with it. I tried checking if theres an option when i get into the bios that lets me flash from there but theres no option for that. i have an award bios i dunno what year. PLS HELP ME!

EDIT: i used a prog called bios wizard and it says:

BIOS Manufacturer: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS Date : 08/21/01
BIOS ROM Size: 256k
BIOS OEN Signon: 08/21/2001 U694TW FOR U694BX / U694BC (Y2K READY)
Chipset: VIA 82C691 rev 196
Super I/O Chip: VIA 686

You can't flash it that way.

I'm going to assume you have an older mother that doesn't support a bootup flash like some new mobo have.

If you want to flash your bios it is incredibly easy.

Do a search on www.google.com and u'll see how. Also look at the mobo website they should tell you.

im trying to look for places that tell me how to flash the safest way possible like backing up old bios n detailed step by step instructions. but im more worried about if ill have the correct file that im going to flash with and i still have no idea what to do with the .b12 flash file.

well do you know the exact model name?

If you don't then open the case and make sure since flashing your bios is pretty serious.

did you see how to look up the version of your bios on the mobo website? you might even have the latest version of the mobo since that last bios seems kinda cool.

Anyway if its newer then the one you have then definately flash it but look up instructions.. Its easy to find on the net.

After searching i found that i needed a file called big_drive_enabler.exe from maxtor with SP3 or later for it to work properly. I got my HD to work and just finished moving my files over again in a single 160gig partition.
