Help! My Global WIN FOP 38 is making me NUTS!

Hi.

I have a 1GHZ T-Bird on a ABIT KT7 motherboard. I also have a GW FOP 38. It's great, but the noise is making me crazy.

Can anyone recommend another HSF combo? I tried a Antec "Twister", looks like a Chrome Orb-- it was quiet, but ran about 12 degrees C hotter. I don't mind sacrificing some performance, but not all that.

Any suggestions?

you can save yourself some money and just replace the fan.. if you want another heatsink tho you can go for hte taisol cgk

You could replace the fan with a Delta 30CFM or YS Teck 27CFM fan and still have a decent cooler.

This is a good segway into the possibility of using just a 120mm mounted in the side of the case over the cpu of course. I tried it with a Sorb with it's fans unplugged and it gave onboard readouts better than stock. Just make sure your power is off when the door is off. Or mount the 120 on a little bracket.

Yeah. The heatsink itself is fine, but the fan.. Ack!
I thought I could live with it, 4.5 months of whirrrr...

yeah.. I have two computers in the basement where I sleep running all the time.. and only recently have the fans started to bug me at night.. I only noticed this high pitched whrrrr.. and it goes on and off... it's driving me nuts.. but I only sleep down there on weekends (g/f ) and I'm too lazy to investigate and further.. I have heard the fop38 in action though... I feel for ya man!

send it to me.. buy yourself a alpha (I think those are quiter than the 38's)
but yeah.. putting a ys teck fan on it would make it a fop32 if I'm not mistaken.. and they're good..

Why don't you mount a 36dba 40cfm 80mm fan on it? 006agent is selling some in the for sale/trade area! With a mount to put on the fop38, too... should be a tonne better, no more stupid annoying jet engine in your computer.
