My computer is somewhat new, however when I play WoW id get 50fps just standing around, but when I do a raid... where all spell animations and all that graphic rendering happens, especially when theres more than 25 people doing an animation it brings my FPS down to 1-5 and it frustrates me cause my computer is supposed to be good... here is my system information.

BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad core Processor(4CPU's) ~ 2.2Ghz
Memory: 4096MB Ram
Direct X version: DX11
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB DDR3 PCIE 2.0

My graphics card is up-to-date

My friend tells me that i shouldnt be getting 1-5fps during a 25 man raid, and i dont run anything else in the background when I play WoW. My video settings in WoW arent even at high they are all at low. And Ive tried defragging my drives and it didnt help.

Please help me figure out why my video runs so slow!

I cant figure out my motheboard without downloading a freeware , so give me a min.
And I thought Phenom I was decent enough to run a 5 yr old game to its highest settings? and what does it mean it might be bottleneck? sorry not very good with these

Bottleneck is the place where your system is slowed down, the weakest component in it. The only things I can think of are the CPU (A Phenom I isn't horrible but they aren't good either), or the HDD (8mb cache Hitachi, not exactly stellar). But I might be missing something.

OP, do you have anti aliasing enabled? If so, turn it off.

Isn't there a way to set Wow to use a bunch of threads for some really nice performance gains? A 2.2Ghz Phenom 1 isn't a very strong CPU, but if you could get the game to use all four cores it would probably perform much better.

I don't know how to specifically, but I remember reading a thread about it. Hopefully someone who knows about it sees the thread.

I don't think his hard drive would be slowing down his world of warcraft. If that was the problem he would get some big slowdowns while the hard drive loads stuff and it would be fine afterwards. This pretty much has to be either CPU or video card related. WoW is pretty cpu intensive really but since I don't have any hands on experience with a 4670 I can't really say if that can be the bottleneck or not.

The thing you need to keep in mind is that even though wow will use multiple threads 90% of it is going to run on a single thread. They offloaded things like the audio and other easy to move stuff to run on another thread but the main game is still single threaded. Your Phenom 1 at 2.2GHz might be pretty slow for that(a fast dual core is probably more optimal for an older game like WoW).

Overclocking means running your components faster than it's specified to run. For example running your 2.2GHz CPU at 2.6GHz would be overclocking it by 400MHz.

Make sure shadow effects are set to low and death knight sound effects are turned off. You can make WoW run more cores by changing the affinity mask settings in your .wtf file. I would advise you google "wow affinity mask" and read a bit before trying anything. WoW is a notorious core speed hog with a relatively bumpy patch send system. Even posting my i7 920 at 4.0 - a speed that literally crushes most modern games - still creates slow entry load times, lag in Dalaran or in raids, and even blips when my system "paints" a new background I am approaching.

If this is hardware oriented, I would anticipate your CPU is the culprit here. Do you have any budget for an upgrade? The Phenom I line was notoriously weak. If your RAM is DDR2 I would kick that motherboard/cpu to the curb and get an AMD X3 435 and a cheapish mATX motherboard - runs around $150.

Can you get your video settings from wow for us your computer should be much better than it is. Wow isn't that tough and it's old tech even thought they have tried to upgrade it , your cpu should be fine.

I bet you have something turned on to high. 4670 isn't that string for high res probably 1280 at best. Also take a cpu-z and gpu-z system screen shot for me if you can thanks.

I looked up the recommended spec for wow it's dual core Pentium d lol 1 gb of ram 7200 or higher.

So guy's I know Phenom first gen sucked but lets try to get past that to see if there's other problems.

Okay, I see a decent amount of mods. Did you clean out your .wtf and interface folder? It's annoying but has to be done once in a while.

What is your screen resolution?

Don't run WoW in Windowed Mode.

Google affinity mask and wow, try messing with some of those settings.

Maybe try going down from the 1680 depending on your monitor everything else is pretty low should be able to play at this I would think. I don't like the windows mode slow things down some .

One more thing make sure all your drivers are up today on you video card.

On the new stuff looks like from the system info you pulled that you have a acer so yes you would need a motherboard and cpu.

what type of CPU + Motherboard would you suggest getting?

That's up to you. I would try to make your current system work before you upgrade. I definitely understand your impatience, and even though I just told you to boot the current CPU, I had not realized what you had or had not tried when I made that recommendation. :p

Anyway, an upgrade for you, assuming you can reuse your case and power supply, could run from $150 dollars (AMD value CPU/mATX motherboard) to $450 dollars (i5 750, motherboard, new RAM). There are some solid deals on Newegg, and really good deals for someone like you if you live near a Fry's or a Microcenter.

You may not believe, but the MCP is the bottleneck. You can't change MCP, but you can reduce its load.
a) Buy a SSD and put WoW on it.
b) PCI-E NIC, Killer Xeno Pro.

I don't own Killer Xeno Pro, but i do believe it helps. As for SSD, it is night and day difference.

jtisgeek already mentioned this, but I don't know if the OP looked into it: What version of video card drivers are you using? The driver may be corrupted or old, and installing the newest version may help.
