Hey I recently picked up a e8400 E0 and 4x1gb of Ballistix Tracer 1066 D9 modules. I have no idea whats goin on in the world of chipsets and would like advice on which mobo to buy. I want to go crossfire, prob two 4850's so no p35/p45 boards unless they clock VERY well, as I will be clocking a lot with this board. Thanks

The P35 and P45 boards support Crossfire as well. Of course the X38 and X48 run 16x 16x crossfire while the P series run 16x 8x. Which I think you would never even know the difference.

I read a lot of reviews when I was deciding on a board as well. And they say the Gigabyte UD3P is absolutely fantastic in all catagories.

There is a pretty BIG difference, especially with Crossfire HD4850's:

They tested 5 games here in 6 different crossfire modes, in every game the best crossfire motherboard mode is X48 pcie 2.0 16x / 16x

The lowest performer is P35 Pci-e 1.0/1.1 16x / 4x.

the p5q-e does look promising. Does anyone have any experience with the p5e and updating it to the rampage bios? It looks like i am leaning more that way right now, just because of the reported stable fsb speeds above 530 fsb.

If you want crossfire, then an X38/x48 mobo would be best.

How's about this::D

gigabyte ep45-ud3p mobo is a p45 board but is one of the best clockers out there. it supports 16x/8x crossfire and should be okay for 4850 crossfire.

edit: ah im too late!!! :)
