Well, they're doing blood work and urine analysis and they've put her on a pain killer for her hips because she is weak back there and she has gained a little weight since we put her on the new diet. The constant panting and water drinking is cause for concern so that's why the blood work.

We'll know in a couple days.

Doggy is resting fine and in good spirits, she's glad to be back home.

hope all is okay. my dog is almost 17 now. last year she just started falling down, and then back legs wouldn't work at all. i brought her to the vet and they said spinal degeneration was the cause, they suggested putting her down because she wouldn't get any better. They said steroids may help a little but were confident she wouldn't walk again.

after a week she was able to get around kinda clumsy backend falling over. I hated to see her suffer like that, it was no life for a dog. but she did get better after a month and while she is shaky in her back legs she does get around pretty good. I bought 6 pounds of roast beef from the deli the other day, im making sure she enjoys herself in her old age because she is so old for a beagle.

Hips was the first thing that came to mind. If a dog has weak hips and is getting older that tends to start being more and more of a problem. If it falls and hurts its hip the dog may stay down, not always because it cannot get up anymore but because it hurts when it tries.

Calling the vet in such a case is always the right thing to do. Most practices have at least one vet on call during the nights and weekends too since you never know when medical treatment is needed.

Hope your dog is ok, and it was just a random occurrence. I love dogs, and will want to get one as soon as I'm in a situation where I won't be leaving it alone at the apartment all day while I'm at work, but at the same time I dread the day when a pet of mine is in a situation where it's in incurable pain. Guess it comes down to hoping that I can provide a good life for a dog and enjoying the time together vs. the pain that comes with loosing a companion and family member.

Hemangiosarcoma? If your dog is anemic at all that would be likely. I'm surprised they haven't done any xrays, as they'll easily see a mass if it's gotten to this point.

Here's hoping hard it's nothing serious and everything is fine, Jules!

labs are known for hip issues

12 is up there for a lab thats not mixed with a smaller breed. at 75lbs, 12 is old :(

Its always hard, but I have seen a few friends through 4 digits into older pets to get a month or two of added and not always happy life for the pet.

sorry to hear about your doggie Jules, hope all is well or a less than painful end can be found

If she turns out to be ok I recommend you switch her to this food.

Our mix breed was starting to show signs of age, she's only 6 but is a big dog, and someone suggested this food to me. Since putting her on it she is a like a pup again.
