Hombre, what kind of heatsink are you using!!!

53C idle?

When I built my first pc in a couple of years about 2 months ago I used a 1700+ and a volcano 9 and got the same results....but my fans configuration was all messed up.

First of all, make sure sure you have a good heatsink/fan

make sure your casefans are set for maximixing airflow....

Doing that (especially my case fans were screwed) i lowered my temp by 10 degrees in the bios

If the power is cutting off, you may have poor thermal transfer from the CPU core to the heatsink. Usually this is caused either by some obstruction to thermal transfer (lack of thermal compound, or forgetting to take off plastic cover slip from the thermal pad), or else an improperly attached heatsink. When the CPU overheats as a result, it triggers the power-off by the motherboard for its own protection.

The heatsink is not symmetrical. If you put it on backwards, you are in trouble. Review Figure 7, Figure 13 and Figure 14 of this PDF document and take notice of the step that is cut into the base of the heatsink, and why it is there (to provide clearance over the solid-plastic part of the CPU socket).
