Heres the deal. I have a 64meg CF card that I formatted in WinXP. I use this card for my Nikon coolpix 800 camera. I took tons of pics and while they display in the camera WinXP does not see the pics when I put the card in the laptop. Winxp shows that space is taken up in the card but does not show the files. I tested with another cf card and got the same results. When I formatted the test card in the camera Winxp shows the pics fine but not if the card was formatted in Winxp. Why? I cannot find the Nikon software cd I got when I bought the camera because I always used either the pccard adapter or the cf reader I have. Anyone know where I can get either drivers for my camera for use in XP or where I may download Nikon caputer 2? Nikons website only has the updater but I cant find my original CD. Thanks.

Rule #1 . . . never format digital camera media in Windows of any kind . . . you'll end up with a recyle bin and all sorts of nonsense.

The fix is easy . . . reformat the CF module in your camera.

If that doesn't work with a Nikon, I'm glad I got an Olympus! :)

NO! I cant reformat! I have pictures of my son riding his two wheel bike without training wheels for the first time! Anyway, I found a way. I downloaded paintshop pro 7.04, then I installed JASC Digital Camera Support and even though it didnt have my specific camera it did have other Nikon models and it worked fine! I extracted the pics and formatted the card in the camera.
