Help: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum will not POST!

So I am building a system for my buddy, here are the specs: AMD Atlhon 64 3500+, eVGA GeForce 6800GT, 1GB PNY DDR400, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Motherboard, Raidmax case.

Everything is plugged in and ready to go, but when I turn on the system, it does not post, it does not give video feed to the monitor, and it doesn't make the "beep" that my system makes when it boots (I have the same Mobo). I have tried using his processor in my motherboard, and it works fine, I have also sent his Mobo back and got a new one, and that didn't change anything.

Please help as I am clueless as to why his working hardware seems to malfunction.

first two slots is where they are

btw... just tried unplugging and replugging in the ram... now the system just makes repetative, long 2 second "beeps" with about 3 seconds in between each beep.

since u got somewhere with the ram, it could be the culprit.

try using 1 stick in the slot closest to the CPU. or using another brand altogether

okay the d bracket is giving me 1 red 2 green, 3 red, 4 red. which according to the code means bad memory... but I have tried 2x sticks of PNY, 1x stick of PNY, 1x stick of corsair value, twinmos 1x stick, and also no memory at all.... and no matter what I get the same error.

1 2
3 4

update-- tried buffalo memory, x1-- did not work. buffalo memory x2 in the lower 2 slots DID work and POST. ... but then why doesn't the PNY memory work? My Corsair XMS memory doesn't work either... both are matched dual channel pairs, whereas the bufallo that DID work is just some crap that I had laying around.

UPDATE #2 WIERD:

using 4x memorry (2x bufallo and 2x PNY) DOES WORK AND POST... but using the same PNY memory by itself does not work... what in the world is going on? also... 1 sick of bufallo and 1 sick of pny memory DOES work.

the bufallo is 333 and the pny is 400

What power supplies have you used? Over at the MSI Forums, it is HIGHLY suggested that you have over 25 amps on the 12v rail for the MSI to work well, especially if your going to pair it with that video card. Now, many people have had stable systems with less amps, and that might not be the problem if the D bracket says is a memory error, but i would definately test it with a very good PSU.

Other possible problems:

IF you bought this board awhile ago or it is an older production (produced more than 4 months ago i believe) then it has the older 1.2 BIOS that does not support the newer Winchester core CPUs, you need a NEwcastle to boot it up and flash the BIOS. This s doubtfull because most all the boards these days come with the updated BIOS.

Did you try it with just one stick of memory, one HD, no opticals?

When it does post, check the memory voltage, it shold be set to auto detect, but maybe it is screwy and needs to be set manually. Just a guess

Also, when you used 4x memory, did it actually detect ALL the memory, because it could be just be sitting there doing nothing.

It could just be bad memory, unless you've tested it in another machine and you know it works. Sometimes various brands don't play well together, though.

If the XMS doesn't work in another machine, I'd just RMA it.
