HELP - Motherboard BIOS problem

I am in the process of making some hardware changes (and changing from dialup to DSL) to this system and I wanted to update the BIOS before I reinstalled the operating system.

However, when I try to flash the BIOS with the latest version from the ASUS site, the machine will only boot from a hard start (it will not restart with either the alt,crt,del or with the reset button). After the flash, it prompts to go into BIOS and when I do and come back out the system will NOT boot and will not restart, only a hard shutdown and restart is possible.

I have tried both version 1023 and the 1024 beta and both give me the same problem.

I have gone back to version 1015 and it works O.K.

Am I done something wrong or are these later version not compatible with this motherboard ?

Does anyone know what is the most recent BIOS version that will work properly with this board ?

At the moment I do not have e-mail, so I can not inquiry about this with ASUS.

Edit: P.S. - I am using the alt-f2 key combination to do the flash.

foolish me, but is there a particular reason why you need to flash the BIOS? is there something actually wrong?

Obviously something isn't working correctly, but maybe there isn't really a need for you to stress about this?

Apparently you did not completely read my post.

Also, I am proactive. The motherboard manufacturers write these updates for a reason. I don't necessary hold to the theory that if it isn't broke don't fix it. I believe in keeping things up to date to prevent problems from cropping up. I am not saying that this can not ever lead to a problem. But in my experience, it tends to prevent more problems that it causes.

Looks like version 1019 is the cure for right now.

But each to their own.

bios 1016/1019 are the 2 i like most for the best for the p4c800-e deluxe.. if you dont need the latest bios to support a new hardware (e'g' dothan support) and if you find your current bios to be stable enough-then there's no reason to update it...bios is one of those " if ain't broken, don't fix it."

Need some assistance. I have this same MOBO paired with a P4 3.2 CPU and 2 X 512 RAM pc3500 LVII Mushkin RAM running in dual channel. I
wanted to add another dual pack 2 X 512 of compatible RAM. Mushkin has renamed their ram to XP, HP or EM. I dont know which one is compatible to the PC35000? Suggestions please

Hey there wpshooter, I don't see that you ever posted that found a cure for your problem. I'm having the similar problem now with mine ... except I have the voice module telling me that it's due to CPU overclocking failure. BUT I'm NOT OC'g so it's driving me nuts with having to shut down twice to activate the F2 screen option, which loads defaults and proceeds just fine until I have to reboot again (so I'm not shutting down anymore unless I have to after an install or delete requiring rebooting).

So, what did you find with yours...?

OH well I'm a numbskull today... please disregard my Q reply as I now see that you were able to run on the older BIOS and that you are using a different MB... that one alphabet soup difference caught me.

P4C800-E Deluxe my P4S800-E Deluxe

Unfortunately mine isn't a simple bios compatibility issue as I've been running the same Bios since 10/05 and my errors are sudden with having done no new changes.
