so she wants the cheapest possible for two. one is going to be for five years old boy and she'll buy some children educational games for that computer so it's nothing special.

however, the other computer is going to be for her 15 year old daughter who loves to play music a lot.

can you list out specs for both computers.

the maximum budget for both computers (combined) is $1,000. she wants the cheapest possible. so i'm thinking athlon 64 is way too much. so list out specs with athlon xp.

edit: also i have two xp processors i'll throw in.

well if you waited till next year when AMD has its on version of VT then you can just get one comp for a thousand two monitors and two keyboards ect. If she does not want that get her 2 emachines.

Dell or HP/Compaq, unless the daughter's name is Stacy.

... if you build them, you'll be expected to provide a lifetime extended warranty with unlimited free replacement parts.

For the 5 year old, do what i do, and let her have the ole P3. - Get a 2nd hand one for cheap.
For the older kid, build one that she'll thank you for.

OR,
Avoid getting involved, cos everytime they can't install a piece of sw or the music skips, they'll be ringing you up.

Here's an eMachine you can pickup at Costco or whatever discount electronics store in your area.

Here's another.

If their limit is $1000, these make it. Point her in the right direction, and have someone else install them. Your intentions maybe helpful, but like montag451 said, you will be the first they call if something goes wrong. You don't want to go there. Offer advice only, let Stacy's mom make the final decision.
