View my reply to you other post. In addition, with either a hub or switch you will have to leave the computer on that is doing the internet sharing. Like I said in my other post, I work primarily with businesses so I haven't looked into other option for cable. For instance, a web ramp type product like is available for dsl and isdn will act as the "connection server" It will run the "sharing" and even act as the DHCP server. It also acts as a hardware firewall. Sorry, I don't know about that type product for cable. I just don't install cable based networks. However, they do run several hundred dollars. If this is for home use, a switch, windows 98 ICS and a good software firewall such as Black Ice works great. BTW, DO NOT get cable without some kind of firewall. This can not be stressed enough.

BTW, Web Ramp is an example of a relatively affortable router, compared to others. 3com as well as others make similar products but we have had very good luck with web ramps. I had to cure my own curiosity so I looked at their website. They have 700 series which does work dsl/cable. The site http://www.webramp.com/products/700s/index.html Pricing depends on user license you purchase for the firewall feature. 5 user $480 25 user $850, unlimited $1500. These are very good, basic routers/firewalls. I still think that a good 10/100 5port switch (about $100) and Black Ice is a better home solution. IMHO of course.
Hope this helps
