Help me with PSU - Urgent!

Hi.

What would be the PSU requirements for:

P5B Premium
Q6600 (somehow overclocked)
EVGA 8800GTX Superclocked (single, no SLI)
4 gigs of Ram
2 WD500 HDs

How many 12V rails should it have and how many amperes (A) each?

Then, could you point me to good PSU's for that setup?
(I want as little noise as possible, but dont want to spend $300 on a PSU )

I'll go to the USA on vacation and I have to place my order ASAP!

I gotta agree. Corsair HX-620 is the best price vs performance of any PSU in that range. It uses high quality caps, has a 120mm fan that is virtually silent, and produces rock solid current.

Others will recommend Seasonics or OCZ or PCP&C, but all things considered, the Corsair is the best. Do a google for reviews on it and they are all glowing.
 
Seasonic. The M12 700 is more expensive, but I think it's worth it.

It has enough PCIe power plugs (4) for SLI, and the Corsair only has 2.

I just had to decide last week, and these were both in the running. I went with the Seasonic.

Last time I got a PSU that was enough for my needs at the time, and the Seasonic S12 600 was in the running back then. I went with the cheaper NEO 480 instead, and now I am paying for it by needing an upgrade today, instead of being able to go another year (or more) with my last PSU. This time, I'm going big, because generally it's easier to future proof a PSU than it is to future proof any other component.

Seasonic manufactures the 620HX; Corsair just slaps their name on it.

Neither your computer nor the OPs computer comes close to using 600 watts, even at full load.

Overclocked quad-core SLI machines with multiple drives use 400-500 watts, and the 620HX handles that with ease. Both of you guys are using between 200-300 watts at load, and <200 watts during most of your usage.
 
How can that be true if just ONE EVGA 8800GTX ACS3 consumes more than 300W at load, as of the review from this very site?

If you don't mind a copy n' paste... 😀

Personally, I would look for a PSU with a single 12V rail and 35A-ish ampitude!

That should do the trick for 99.9% of the ppl in these forums...

Secondly, I know you said no SLI, but if you're worried about powering your 8800GTX, make sure you get a Nvidia Certified PSU! 😉

Certified SLI-Ready Power Supplies (choose other SLI PC configurations)

Both the Corsair (triple-rail) HX520W (40A) & HX620W (50A) will work just fine for you... certifiably... according to Nvidia! 🙂

If you *think* you need more power than that this Nvidia Guide might help you make up your mind!

That 300W isn't the card only, that is the whole system. No way it pulls 25A from the 12V.

Are you guys really SHURE that I'll be able to run my Q6600 a little overclocked and ONE 8800GTX Overclocked with no problems?

And also, please, PLEASE tell me this one is quiet.....

As an owner of the Corsair HX 620W, I can say for certain that yes it is indeed quiet. It has more than enough power for a Q6600 and a 8800GTX - after all, one of these powered a kentsfield and 8800GTX SLI all overclocked 😀

ppeccin2007 isn't going to believe you unless you write a review, have it notarized and sent via Certified Mail to his home.

He had an answer to his question 9 hours ago, had the recommendation seconded and thirded, but is still waiting for a call from Corsair's CEO to make sure we're not all wrong.

Yes it'll be fine & in fact will provide a decent power-surplus for your system.

Also because it has a 120mm fan it'll be very quiet.
