Help me with my problem (aka what CPU should I keep)

I have in my possession:

5820k
5960x
7700k

Most intensive thing I do is play games so the choice is obviously 7700k but I don't plan on upgrading my platform again for ~5 years. Do you think in that case I should keep the 5960x in case more game engines start using more cores?

Yeap.. Moar cores = more fun. 5960X is a beast & will serve you well

Now about that 5820K..

Future-proofing with current tech doesn't usually pay off. I would usually pick whatever is best for me right now, but I'm okay with not playing the latest and most demanding games as well.. I would probably go with the 7700k.

It really depends on your workload though. If there is that one app that demands the most of your system and for which performance is important, that should direct your pick.

7700K gives you the most gaming performance now, and has lower resale value than the other two. Sell those instead.
