I've just made this new system for my little brother. Everything went smoothly with the install of win2k. I installed the drivers for the i815 chipset. Afterwards I installed the nvidia 6.18 drivers. But in Q3 demo it only gives me 56 fps while my own GF DDR gives me 85 fps in the same setting.

What have I done wrong???...Any suggestions???.

Anyone who owns this board from Abit???.

Please help me 'cause I really would like to give my little brother the kick-@ss system he asked me to build him .

AoD

Abit SE6
Diamond Maxtor 40Gb
Asus V7700 w/64mb DDR
CL SB-Live
128mb Apacer ram
P3700E

PS. I've posted a similar thread before but no luck so far from you :(

try to use some difference drivers
put his graphics card in your system
and, are both yours and his system running the same OS?
what's his cpu speed and yours?

See my sign for my own system. I use Nvidia reference in both systems running win2k. I build this system for him and picked everything carefully so that I could build him a kick-@ss system.

His system(As I wrote ;)):

Abit SE6
Diamond Maxtor 40Gb
Asus V7700 w/64mb DDR
CL SB-Live
128mb Apacer ram
P3700E

Both computers running same software. I was able to get i running at 933 but during install of win2k it hang :( guess it needs better cooling so I set it at stock speed 700Mhz like my own processor.

My CL Geforce DDR beat his Asus V7700 with 64mb DDR...hmmm, something is wrong.

Hey, that's a good score for a regular ddr. In win2k with a geforce 2gts I only get 69fps with demo001. I find it hard to believe that a regular ddr can get 89fps, unless maybe you weren't running it in 32bpp. Check that, that could be the difference right there. Please help this guy, so maybe I can get some hints, and don't say win2k sux use 98se because that's not what is being asked.

edit:Didn't see that you have a 64meg card either, that is probably the difference right there, although i thought a 32meg geforce 2 could still beat a 64meg Geforce 1.

i have noticed that in benchmarks i have seen that the 32 meg ddr beat the 64 meg up until the very high resolutions where 64 meg is kind of needed. Right now, i see no point whatsoever to 64 mb since nobody is going to run games in resolutions like 1600x1200 on a 17 inch monitor or a 19 inch monitor, heck, 19 inch monitors are still not big enough to run 1600x1200 and not make everything seem small.

I can't believe that in Q3 at 1024x768x16 and 16 bit textures that my CL DDR 32megs hit 85 fps but Asus DDR 64megs only hit 56 fps that can't be true :(

compare the 32 bit scores, and jack up the resolution and you will see the advantage of 64 meg

After all I've been writing am I the only one who think it's wierd that my CL GF1 32mb DDR beats an Asus GF2 64mb DDR in q3 with the exact same settings????

it is weird- if it was at a lower res- like 640X480- then it could be simply CPU limited- but 1024 should be a high enough res for the GF2 to run away with.

I assume u both use Win 2K? Memory at 2-2-2? Fast writes off? Same AGP apeture size(shouldn't really make a diff). Reinstall the video drivers? Make sure you have the current mobo drivers? Same video settings?- well even at maximum detail/quality- the GF2 should still be quicker- same color depth?(16-bit or 32-bit). You sure FSAA isn't enabled in OGL properties and enabled in general? Go through your bios and video settings with a fine tooth comb.

Also do you have a faster CPU you can try out? The GF1 DDR is close to maxed out by a 700mhz CPU, but a GF2 may still scale higher with a faster CPU- but I still think the GF2 score should be higher.

AoD:

Make sure you are comparing ONLY the video cards. You can't make a comparison between your bro's system and yours with all different components, drivers, etc. Try switching the Asus card with the CL card from your own computer, using the latest (6.18) reference drivers and see what happens.

Hi,

I was having the same problem with my SE6 and CLA2. I was getting really low scores in benchmarks and games. I fixed the problem by downloading the "Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility" off of Intel's site. After installing that my scores more than doubled.

Hope this helps

First I am not making fun of AngelOfDeath...

But I did want to point out that having PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ right next to the name AngelOfDeath seems to be somewhat inconsistent... :)
