edit here's the new one, what do you guys think? (names have been changed to protect the innocent. old one is below):
When writing this speech, I asked several people for advice. The consistent message I heard was to avoid clichés. Upon hearing this, I promptly tore up my speech I had written about seizing the day and the beneficial effects of sunscreen. And so, I began anew:
Ever since I made my decision to go to SU, I?ve been swarmed by people telling me how much they?re going to miss me and asked my why I was going. I told them a variety of things, like I wanted to spend less time at school or that I really wanted that car my mom promised me, but honestly I wasn?t too sure. I thought about the question some more, and still couldn?t come up with an answer so I decided to ask some of my commencing peers. I asked John Doe on the internet and he replied back ?College women colon end parentheses? (for those uninitiated with the internet, that?s a smiley face). The next day I asked another friend, Joe Smith. He looked me in the eye and said, ?Three words Alex: college women.? To which I responded, ?And for the education TWO right??
People say, High school is the best time of your life. And I?ll agree, it has been, thus far. The people I?ve met and the experiences I?ve had at Prep have made up the best times of my life. In the fall of 2000, I came to Prep not knowing a soul, and I was pretty scared. And now I stand here today, three years later, and I can tell you everything turned out pretty good. Once again, I?m headed to the next level, but this time I?ve got thirty friends coming with me and I?m not scared at all.
I expect my future at SU & beyond will be even better. High School has been great, don?t get me wrong, but if High School was really it, don?t you think a lot more thirty and forty year olds would be constantly angry and mad? Actually, that might explain a few of my teachers.
Next month my brother graduates from college. He?s told me ?High school?s nothing, college is easily the best time of your life.? And then I got to thinking, so what are the speakers at his graduation ceremony going to say about college being the best time of your life? ?Don?t worry guys, I?ve talked to my parents and they say the real world is much better than college.? And then what are they going to tell the elderly, ?Don?t worry, I just had a vision from God and he tells me Heaven is way better than Earth.? And that?s the great thing about the future, we can always look ahead and see the light at the end of the tunnel, and always say the future will be better. But whether or not we?re deluding ourselves with a vision of a light shining from the beautiful day outside or a vision of an oncoming train will be decided in the present. Like Will Rogers once said, ?Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.? So commencing juniors, let?s stand up, envision our futures, and make it happen.

I?d like to start off with a few lyrics from my favorite song: ?I want to be the very best, Like no-one ever was. To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause. I will travel across the land, searching far and wide. Each pokémon to understand the power that?s inside? Uh sorry wrong speech. (shuffle papers). Sophie (she's speaking before me) I think you left one of your other speeches up here. Anyway, here?s the right one.

Ever since I made my decision to go to collegeschool, I?ve been swarmed by people telling me how much they?re going to miss me and asked my why I was going, and yes, the majority of them were girls. The way I see it is this, commencement for me is just another step in my life. I don?t know where this path will lead me, but I?m confident in taking this next step. Did Frodo ever stop in his journey? No, he kept on towards Mordor and his certain death. Did Luke Skywalker ever give up? No, he kept on fighting and destroyed the Death Star. And if I too ever want to become a Jedi Knight myself, I mean successful and accomplished adult, I?ve got to continue on with my journey.
(Don't really like this section, going to change it hopefully)People say, High school is the best time of your life. And I?ll agree, it has been, of my life thus far. The people I?ve and the experiences I?ve had at myschool have made up the best times of my life. In the fall of 2000, I came to myschool not knowing a soul, and I was pretty scared. However, after warm beach and playing freshman football, I knew myhighschool was going to be a good place for me. I was a sophomore sooner than I thought, and I wanted freshman year back. I struggled with the much increased work load. I worked and endured through it though. The culmination of all this work was UN. The final and hardest assignment so far, I took it on and succeeded, doing very well. Junior year came and I once again faced adversity. I had a hip tumor and ended up missing the first few weeks of school. I got through all that and once at school I was back on my feet before I knew it. The year passed and the long-awaited Kairos retreat came. I ended up having the time of my life, solidifying friendships while experiencing both the most heartfelt and funniest experiences of my life.

(don't really like this part too much either)My fellow commencing juniors, we?re all headed forward in the collective journeys of our lives. And wherever this path is heading, be it becoming a Jedi knight, Pokemaster, successful and accomplished adult, or whatever, let?s go forth and create the best and even better times of our lives.
I am speaking for my graduating class of ~30 students. My HS has a program where after junior year you commence and move on to college, and graduate now.
