Help me with my anti-virus questions (Norton upgrage or not?)

The NAV "subscription" on my home machine ended this week (IIRC, it's NAV 2002, on XP Pro). The second home machine has AVG but I'd like to ditch it, as it seems inferior to NAV (many threads on this, for example). What to do?

This thread states that I could reformat and re-install, and then have no problems (i.e. good for one year all over again). I wonder if it would work with two machines on the same LAN. In any case, it would feel wrong, so let's consider other options here (plus I have so much stuff installed, a reformat would set me back way too far in my work).

This thread mentions Norton Systemworks, which sounds like it's useful (the 2003 version, at least, didn't it suck for a few years?). Sounds like an option.

So, do I get Systemworks for one or both machines, NAV for one or both, or renew the subscription on the one machine and do something else with the other? Thanks in advance.

There's a deal going right now where you can get Systemworks Pro 2003 for $18 shipped. Check the Hot Deals forum.

Not legally, however.

Yes, of course. It was more a of hypothetical question. Obviously if I were willing to try it, I would have done so already instead of posting here! :)

So, any more opinions? I should have made this a poll to attract more of an audience. BTW, igowerf, I forgot to thank you for you tip... thanks! :)

All you have to do is uninstall NAV and reinstall it and the counter will be reset. You don't have to reformat. I've done this with NAV 2002.

What your suggesting is a violation of the license agreement ;)

is there any differance between symantec systemworks 2002 and 2003, if the 2002 has all the latest updates installed?

I found this thread by searching for "Norton". Somebody else may be in the market for it, so the thread date doesn;t matter....

Systemworks 2003 Professional adds some features like virus scanning for instant messengers. Ghost 2003 is also supposed to be a lot nicer, but Ghost is only in the Pro version.
