Thanks a lot 🙂

get a dell..

if he's putting that cap there.. you might as well save yourself the trouble of not doing "tech-support" for him.. unless you want to.. ie.. dude why is my hdd broken.. how long for the rma, why doesn't this game run.. why is it so slow.. etc..etc..

CRUCIAL MICRON 256MB 32x64 PC 2100 DDR RAM - OEM-----> with your choice of mobo, i would get maybe 2x128mb or 2x256 to take advantage of dual channel ddr

WD WESTERN DIGITAL EIDE HARD DRIVE 80GB 7200RPM MODEL # WD800BB -CAVIAR OEM, DRIVE ONLY ----->is the one with 8mb cache muhc more?

ATI RADEON 8500LE 64MB DDR CRT/DVI/TV ,Dual Monitor support DVIS+CRT only, BULK ------>i would choose this first, then gf3ti200, and not think about ati9000 😉

AMD Athlon XP 2000+/266 FSB Processor CPU - OEM 2000+/ 1.67GHz--------->both cpus are good, this ones cheaper so i chose this 😉

Lite On 12x IDE DVD-ROM Drive ONLY------>good, maybe he would want a cdrw? liteon cdrw's are also good

Asus Motherboard for AMD Athlon/XP/Duron Processors, Model# A7N8X ------>waht can i say, i like asus 🙂

VOYETRA TURTLE BEACH SANTA CRUZ - OEM ----->i like this sound card too

for the case you could look into the antec clone type ones, chenming or something. newegg.com has a large selection

cpu cooling: volcano 9 or volcano 7 or volcano 7+ (whichever of the volcano 7 series is 80mm, i cant remember offhand) along with any 80mm fan with decent cfm

vantec stealth are nice silent fans

Thanks ...

for memory probably will get 2x128, 2x256 is too expensive 🙁

WD 80GB with 8mb cache is $10 more, you think I should get it ?

nah, he won't need a cd-rw, it's his second comp, and on first one he has cd-rw

Asus mb is good, but too expensive, any alternatives ?

forcesho:

he's cool with that ... so I'm not afraid of that ... and I like to do a tech support anyway

I have a 300W PSU running a 1900+ palomino with 2HDD's and a geforce 4 ti, and lots of ram, so you should be fine with a 350. I only have problems if i do overclocking.

Doesn't look like under 600 to me. Plus, what monitor, keyboard, mouse, surge protector, OS ? You are not building a system with out these parts too are you?

By the time you add all that up, He is better off with a Dell.

Dell also doesn't give monitor, surge protector ...

and here's the dell's specs:

Dimension 2350 Series: Intel? Pentium? 4 Processor at 1.80GHz,with 512K L2 Cache DPX2318 [461-8642]
Memory: 256MB DDR-SDRAM 256M [311-1649]
Keyboard: Dell? Quietkey? Keyboard QK [310-1582]
Monitor: No Monitor N [320-3000]
Video Card: Integrated Intel? Extreme 3D Graphics IV [430-3900]
Hard Drive: 30GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive 30 [340-7396]
Floppy Drive: 3.5 in Floppy Drive 3 [310-3401]
Operating System: Microsoft? Windows? XP Home Edition?? WHXP [313-7222] [412-0309] [420-1921]
Mouse: Dell? 2-button scroll mouse SM [310-1871]
Network Interface: Integrated 10/100 Ethernet IN [430-0441]
Modem: No Modem Requested N [313-3607]
CD or DVD Drive: 48x Max CD-ROM Drive CD48 [313-1476]
Sound Card: Integrated Audio IS [313-0847]
Speakers: No Speaker Option N [313-4514]

Video is much worse , Audio is much worse , hdd is 30gb instead of 80gb and probably 2mb cache, and I prefer AMD over Intel, simple CD-ROM instead of DVD drive

If you get the Abit KD7 motherboard you do not need a sound card - it has 6.1 sound onboard, as well as USB 2.0, Firewire, and LAN (NIC).
Few videocards can perform at tle level of the ATI Radeon 9000, it is 8X AGP capabile.
You should go with the Crucial PC2700 (DDR333) RAM with this motherboard, 256MB is fine, more can be added.
If you get the XP1700+ T'Bred CPU the motherboard settings will let it perform at the XP2600+ level, and future upgrade can be accomodated.
Lots of good cases with powersupplys from Newegg in shop by brand look at CODEGEN.
Newegg also has the WinXP Op/Sys for only $ 93, (Service Sack)
For case fans use panaflos, for CPU fan use the Y.S. Tech adjustable check S V C they also have the
SX-7 CPU Heatsink for $ 20.00.

My quick price total comes to $ $581.96. (I added a $9 floppy, and picked a case that with shipping came to $59)
you need a keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
It should outperform a DELL, but heres the catch - You CAN upgrade this one, but you CAN'T upgrade the DELL

You're doomed with a Dell, Dude.

CaptnKirk:

Thanks 🙂

though for me it didn't come out to that number ... but about that ... now, is everything looks right ?
Crucial 256 MB PC2700 (Should I get 1 stick or 2 128mb sticks?) - $70
WD 80GB 7200 8MB - $112
ATI 8500LE (I still want to go with it probably) - $66
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ - $57
Lite On 12x DVD - $32
Case - $59
Abit KD7 (LAN, Sound) -$104
Heatsink: SK-7 + Arctic silver - $22.75
2 silent Fans - $18
Floppy - $8
2 power cable splitters (just in case) - $1
Logitech keyb & mouse combo - $55
WinXP: $93

Total: $697.75 ($642.75 - without keyb & mouse)

that's $60 difference , where did I go wrong ? 🙂

I went Newegg for everything EXCEPT the Heatsink & Fans - that was S V C - see below (*)
I didn't include the Mouse/Keyboard ($ 55 - your price)
Ididn't go for th 8MB cache on the WD 80GB = $ 102 (You would rarely see a difference, but it's nice)
=========================================================================
Try this:
Codegen Case = $ 49 (Freight included - $ 39 + 10)
Abit KD7 = $ 99
XP1700+ = $ 57
SX-7 H/S = $ 19.99 (*)
Y.S. TECH fan = $ 8.99 (*) [on the CPU]
2 Panaflo's = $ 6.99 (*) Case front and case exhaust
Floppy = $ 8
WD 80GD = $ 102
Crucial PC2700 DDR 333 = $ 75 (Don't go to the 128MB sticks - stay with 256's)
DVD/CD-ROM = $ 44 (Lite-On LTD-166, CAUTION the cheaper one may not be a DVD capable peice)
WinXP = $ 93
This total comes to: 569.96
Now you're into a coin flip for a video card.

Here's finally what we got :
ATI Radeon 8500LE 64MB
AMD Athlon XP-2100+ CPU OEM
TEAC 1.44MB 3.5" FLOPPY
Sony 16X EIDE DVD-ROM
Thermalright SK-7 Socket
Arctic Alumina 1.75g
80x25mm Panaflo 24CFM 3-pin Fan (L1A) Ultra Quiet (3x)
256MB 2700 DDR
MB VIA KT400|6P1A4D KD7 ABIT ATX
HD 80GB|WD 7200RPM 8MB WD800JB%
KB&MS LOGITECH|CORDLESS ACCESS DUO
FOXCONN SUPER CASE MID TOWER CASE *BLACK* w/ Front Door & 400W

Well, total came down to $680 🙁

Should be a solid system, everything looks good.
I predict that you will go hunting for a quieter CPU fan,
and when you do you just can't beat the adjustable Y.S. Tech.

I was looking into putting this 80x25mm Panaflo 24CFM 3-pin Fan (L1A) Ultra Quiet on cpu , or is it bad for cpu ?

I personally found that with a Panaflo on the CPU that while it was very quiet, there was insufficient airflow volume to keep the processor below 64.5C during extensive activity - like burning a CD, or even recording from a CD to the hard drive for 2 consecutive CD's without the system getting up to a temperature I felt uncomfortable with.
This is in an aluminum case with an Alpha 8045 on an XP2100+ which has additional cooling advantages.

After chasing through about 5 different CPU fan combonations, the most efficient was the DELTA but WAY TOO LOUD!, and the quietest fan that gave me real good cooling was the Y.S. Tech adjustable. You can control the speed - and through that you can increase the air flow volume on demand. Since going to that fan my system does not exceed
57C in the same intense applications, and I cannot hear the fan as now the loudest fan in the unit is the power supply.
(The Delta only was a 2C degree advantage to 55C over the Y.S. Tech in intense activity)

CaptnKirk:

Thx, we'll see how the temp will be with this one ...

also, from what value of temp, we should start worrying ?

thanks
