I am about to purchase a new entry level receiver, and I can't make up my mind.

SR-55 / Onkyo SR505 / H&K AVR-147.

HDMI - could careless.

I will be connecting PC/xbox360 and ps3.
budget is about $250.

I could get SR-55 for $200 shipped with tax.
SR505 for $210 shipped with tax.
AVR-147 - about my max price range.

Your advice would be appricated 🙂.

Onkyo SR505 out of the 3 you chose.

I hate HDMI, but no way would I buy a new receiver without it. There are several good reasons to care.

I wanted the 505 at first and listened to both, the SQ seemed a little better on the 147 and it also looked better. I went with the avr 147 and am VERY happy with my purchase.
That being said, they are neck and neck IMO.

Something to think about also with the 505 it doesnt have an AC outlet on the back to turn a powered subwoofer off.

I wouldn't recommend doing that since the outlets on receivers are only intended for low power devices like DVD players, etc.

A decent subwoofer is probably going to have the potential to draw several hundreds watts for the amp, so that would be exceeding the intended usage for the receiver's outlets.

You really shouldn't be plugging a subwoofer's power into a receiver anyways. It draws way too much power.

Edit: Bah, Yoyo beat me to it

Hmm I never knew that, I use to plug mine in to my old Denon, but mostly I did it cause I ran out of outlets heh.
