When battlefield vietnam first came out i bought it and installed it on my only computer at the time: p4 2.2, 512 ram, 120 hdd, 5700 ultra 256mb and the game ran flawlessly. But once I saw bf2 advertised late in 2004, i decided to build myself a second computer so i could play online alonside my 9 year old son.
So March came and I built myself the following computer: amd 3500 939 pin, 160 sata hdd, 1 gb ram, 6800 gt pci-e 256 mb video card, gigabyte k8nf-9 nforce 4 mobo. Ive installed doom3, half life2, age of mythology, rome total war, and many more games and they run just great on this setup. However, when i installed bfv on my amd comp the damn game would always freeze with looping sound once i entered a multiplayer map.
So now bf2 demo comes out and im able to run it on both my old comp and new one with no hassels at all. Retail bf2 comes out and i run to ebgames to get me a copy. I install on new comp to see how it plays and guess what......i get the same game freeze with looping sound. the only way i can regain control of my comp is to reboot it. I update all necessary drivers, do memtest on my 1 gb of ram, my video card runs at 71 celsius when i finish playing games like doom3, hl2, so i know im not overheating. I search every forum in the net related to bf2 and alot of people are getting the same problem but with no solution. So last night i go over all the things that ive been troubleshooting and i get this weird ass idea to remove my old computers sound card (sb live 5.1) and install it on my computer which has onboard sound card (realtek ac97). I disable through my bios the realtek and install the sb live. after doing so, i load up bf2 and it runs!!...For about 7 minutes and then the freezing starts again. Mind you, with my old comp i was able to install bf2 retail and was able to play multiplayer without any lock ups at all although the video wasnt as pretty as my new comp. so i remove the sb live from my new comp and re-enable my realtek and get the newest driver for my realtek. I log online to see what happens and im able to start playing.....for about 6 minutes and then another freeze.
So, I guess my question is this, does anyone think this issue is game related or is my new computer cursed??? Im sorry that i typed so much but i wanted to be as clear as possible so hopefully someone could help me troubleshoot the problem as EA definetely does not. Thanks so much
