i'm trying to upgrade p166mhz to p200mhz mmx
When i insert the 200mhz chip, it still post as p166mhz.
I need to change multiplier but I don't know how with this old mobo.
How can i do it?
look at the bios when it boots, coppy all the numbers and letters (usualy the boards name and model)
also, pop open the case and look for model and serial numebrs on the board its self....if its a brand name computer lets say IBM, go to their site and check up on it and find more bout the mobo, then goto the mobo manufaturers site, and look for info bout mulitplyer settings
The instructions on the fsb and multiplier may also be silkscreened on the board itself? Try looking for them under the fine layer of dust that must have been collecting on that PC 🙂 Well assuming that you haven't already looked.
Whoa, have we entered new territory here? MMX cpu's and non-MMX cpu's are not interchangeable because one uses a single core voltage and the other used a split core voltage. Your mobo must be able to support both types (P54 & P55 family)to be interchangeable and jumpered accordingly.
They for sure made a 166MMX. I installed one in my roomates old MSI board a couple of years ago now. It's for sure a 166 MMX and says it on the CPU and when it boots/posts.
Hmmm, I know they made a 166 MMX and a 233 MMX, but I don't recall ever seeing a 200 MMX or even a "classic" 200. Maybe I slept through that week....
