Help me! Uncle Sam has my money.

I mailed my tax return about a month and a half ago. I received my state refund over a month ago but I'm getting desperate for my federal return since I just purchased a house and need the money. I looked unsuccessfully for a tax return status number to call at http://www.irs.gov. Does anybody know of a phone number to check the status of my return?

I'm desperate. Please help!

From irs.gov:

How can I check on the status of my refund?

Refund information does not become available until it has been 6 weeks since you filed your tax return (3 weeks if you filed electronically or through TeleFile). After waiting the appropriate number of weeks, the fastest, easiest way to find out about your current year refund is to call the Automated Refund Service at 800-829-4477. Be sure to have a copy of your return available since you will need to know the first social security number shown on your return, the filing status, and the exact whole dollar amount of your refund. The IRS updates refund information every seven days. Refer to Tax Topic 152, Refunds - How Long They Should Take, for additional information.

Next time, do not give extra to Uncle Sam.

Look at your existing deductions from 1040A, divied that amount by $3000 and increase your exemption withholding by that number.

Perfectly legal.

You get to use your money instead of our stingy uncle.

Unless you like lending him money without interest for a whole year or want the big gift every April.

Thanks! They say they've received my tax form and no other information is available at this time. WTF? I thought if I filed taxes early, I'd be able to receive my refund back within a few weeks.
