OK, here is the deal. My PC had one or two random shutoffs and would need to have the cord unplugged and replugged. After opening up the case on the 3rd turn off, I saw that the CPU heat LED was on. (Barton 2500 runs mid 50's under load. So I replaced the heatsink and fan, and away I went.
I now have a new problem, after doing all that - the pc would hang on the win 2k startup screen. Safe mode works fine, I removed my 9800 pro drivers and it booted into win2k. Try reinstalling the drivers, didn't work - still crashed. So I formatted and installed XP, which run fine except for the fact that if I try to install video drivers it hangs on the xp start screen (well just before the screen turns to the desktop and the video drivers are initialized) with garbled text and the XP graphic, Any ideas???????
My thoughts:
Bad video card - but weird it would work w/ the generic drivers.
Bad mobo - ???
