Hi guys, so i am buying pc (for gaming and other stuff) for a friend, and i took those parts:

#1.

GPU: VGA PCIE16 HD7850 1GB GDDR5/11200-16-20G SMALL SAPPHIRE
CPU: Intel Core i3-3220, 3.30GHz, 3MB, LGA1155, 22nm, BOX
PSU: CHIEFTEC GPA PSU 400W 12CM ATX2.3 80PLUS
RAM: 4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 NON-ECC CL9 DIMM KC
MB: ASUS P8B75-M / Intel B75 / 4 x DIMM, Max. 32 GB, DDR3 Non-ECC, Dual channel / Expansion: 1 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16, x PCIe 2.0 x4, 2 x PCI / Storage: 5 x SATA 3Gb/s, x SATA 6Gb/s / Realtek 8111F Gigabit LAN / 8 x USB 2.0, 4 x USB 3.0 / uATX
HD: Internal HDD Seagate Barracuda 3.5'' 500GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB
Case: Something cheap

This build uses good graphics card, but bad PSU. Question is how bad this PSU is and maybe it's good enough? It's super cheap, that's the only reason i took it. I know there are tons of better ones, but they are more expensive.

#2.

CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 CPU
MB: Asus P8B75-M Intel B75 mATX Motherboard
RAM: Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4GKC 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
GPU: MSI R7770-PMD1GD5HD 7770 1GB PCI-E Video Card
HD: HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 0F10381 500GB SATA HDD
PSU: Corsair CX500 V2 500W PSU
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Case

This one uses worse graphics card, but got decent PSU and case. Both are equal price and I can't go any higher.

Any help which is better, ty!

Welcome to the forums. Would you mind posting answers to the stickied questions.

Sure :D

1. For gaming and other regular stuff
2. 1600Lt. Not gonna convert it into USD cause makes no sense, price difference too high. This is cheap PC.
3. Country - Lithuania
4. I have no brand preference as long as it's decent brand.
5. No intend in using current parts.
7. No overclock.
8. Monitor ~20-21", don't know exact res.
9. This week i need to buy it.

Mind explaining? :hmm:

There is also one more choice for #1: i leave HD7770 instead of HD7850, but take i5 processor instead of i3. And find some decent cheap PSU + case, if chieftec 400 is bad.

Any online store in particular you like to use, or is there a price tracking site in Lithuania?

At that size I would guess the monitor is no more than 1680 x 1050, so the 7770 should be fine for gaming. Very important to have a solid PSU. I know nothing about the first one you listed but I assume it is no good. Second build looks better but I would guess lehtv will find something good, he usually does.

Trying really hard to fit in a 7850 without choosing anything terrible...

i3-3220 371 Lt
Asrock B75M 203 Lt
Corsair 2x4GB 1333 134 Lt
Club3D 7850 1GB 547 Lt
Hitachi 7K1000.C 500GB 169 Lt
Samsung DVD-RW 50 Lt (need it?)
Cooler Master Elite 310 107 Lt
Corsair VS450 120 Lt

= 1651 Lt without DVD-RW

With a Palit 650 Ti at 439 Lt, you'd have room to upgrade other components a bit while staying in budget:

Seagate 500GB 184 Lt
Cooler Master Elite 370 130 Lt
Corsair CX430 140 Lt

= 1601 Lt without DVD-RW

Compare 650 Ti to 7850
.

Regarding the RAM, I don't think 2x2GB is a good idea, just get 2x4GB and you'll never have to worry about running out. RAM is cheap anyway.

Oops forgot about Dvd drive :D

Thank you! And oh wow, performance difference is huge between those 2 cards, I guess i'll ask my friend if he can handle little higher price for 7850, and if not then will go with 650Ti.

But with those cases you recommended I would need to buy extra fan cause they only got one 120mm fan.

You're welcome. Actually, you don't really need an extra fan with the Elite 310. The PSU will act as an exhaust as well. It's generally agreed that placing the PSU on the bottom is more 'advanced' because it spares the PSU from the case's warm internal air, but it also means that you have less effective exhaust airflow. If you get the Elite 370, place the PSU so the fan faces down and takes in air through the mesh on the floor, and buy a cheap case fan that connects directly to the PSU (the low end motherboard only has one case fan header).

Nice, didn't knew that before.

Definitely go with the 7850 build IMHO. The rest of the parts are perfectly fine for a budget build.

Yeah, but it's already little bit over the budget with dvd drive :p

Friend approved little higher price so gonna run with HD7850 card, pretty much all you suggested.

Now my last question, what would be better, this i3 processor with 7850 card, or cheapest i5 quad core processor with HD7770 card? Because the price would be pretty much the same.

i3 with 7850 will perform much better in games, while i5 with 7770 will more easily support a GPU upgrade without the CPU becoming a serious bottleneck. That's another way of saying that i5 + 7770 isn't a very balanced match; I'd get i3 + 7850 for the immediate benefits to framerates. When the time comes to upgrade, upgrade the CPU, the motherboard and the GPU all in one go (and if needed for compatibility reasons, RAM).

Awesome, then gonna go for this setup  thanks again ;p

Last question i got, really bothers me.

So this build uses Cooler Master Elite 310 case and Corsair VS450 PSU which i got advice that are not good.

What do you think are those thing decent or really bad? Because i really don't want to sacrifice GPU for a case, but at the same time i don't want some shitty cooling case or PSU you know :)

They are both good. Who told you they're not, and why do they think that?

Sure, the Elite 310 is basic, but so is your build. The more you can free up cash to use on components that actually affect the performance of the PC, the better. Elite 310 will work just fine for your purposes. Cooler Master is known for its low end cases being relatively well built, workmanship-wise, even if they are not very feature-rich.

And sure, the VS450 is basic as well, but unlike a lot of other brands that offer low cost units, Corsair still retains a fairly respectable level of reliability and build quality. I would expect VS450 to be able to supply its full +12V rating cleanly, but your build will not consume more than about half of what the unit is advertised as being capable of.

If you're still worried about either component, I would sooner upgrade the PSU to Corsair CX430 than the case to Elite 370 - but neither if it means no 7850. Despite the lower wattage rating, CX430 is probably higher quality and its newest version has higher efficiency.

Cool, ty, then i will ask him if he can add few extra bucks for a CX430 if it's really better :)
