Ok, I know there are threads like this every day, but I know you guys are smart (smarter than me computer wise) so help! please! Here's the deal, I'm going to buy a video card to replace my much outdated Geforce2 MX. I have decided to get the Geforce4 Ti 4200. Now the question is which one? 64 mb vs. 128 mb. Good brand vs. lesser brand? Well, I basically narrowed it down to three choices.

1. Abit GF4 Ti4200 64MB DDR Video Card w/TV-Out & DVI Retail which sells for $147.00

2. AOPEN GEFORCE 4 TI 4200/TV-OUT/128M DDR which sells for $166.00

3. GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 4ns, 128MB DDR, Power Pack Golden Sample which sells for $193.00

The first choice is a really powerful card but 64 mb, the second is a 128 mb card with all the features i want (VIVO, DVI, TV-out) but at a discount price due to name, and the third one is the name brand powerhouse. Remember, price is an option but not a huge one. Just want the best value for my money.

Ok, moving on, I am buying a 17 inch LCD monitor with DVI. It is a Hyundai and sells for $525 (great deal for a great monitor). link It has DVI but it doesn't come with the DVI cable. http://www.esystor.com/shop/IPS003.asp?ProCd=HyunL70A&LClssCd=001&LClssNm=Computers

So if I get one of the above mentioned cards, where can I buy the cable and what kind do i need? Please help me waste my money and learn a little bit more than I do!

Can't advise you on the LCD, but out of the three cards I would defintely choose the Abit. Been thinking about getting a GF4 myself soon and the Abit is the one I had my eye on. Every review I have read on this card has overclocked it to 300/600 or more, which is above 4400 speeds and close to 4600 speeds. I think Abit make good quality cards despite the price being cheap.

I like the Abit too but people are saying that you really should buy a 128 as it will allow you to play many of the upcoming games better and will not become outdated so quickly. Also, 128 proponents point to the ability to run higher resolutions and also run anti-aliasing. Anyone have anymore thoughts on this?

From personal experience I know that going for 128Mb is absolutely worth it. Once you overclock it (and believe me; they overclock very well), it will be faster than the 64MB one by far and also better for AA!

Ok, lets cut this argument short. I WILL get a 128 mb. So then which one? I've seen dozens of brands with prices ranging from ~150 - ~200 dollars. All have DVI, VIVO, etc. Any of them better for the price?

I would say spend a little more money on the 128mb card. In the future you will get more performance from it than you would from the 64mb version.

I got the gainward goldensample 128mb ti4600 w/vivo. I love it. Overclocked to ti4600 speeds easy. Go for it.
