I've seem RX-8's on used lots appear for that price. They aren't 4 doors, but they sure are nice. I miss my friends RX-8 a lot.

Most people prefer torque when driving a car. Oh, and he said reliable. At least Mazda is giving out free engines with the RX-8's these days...

Considered an IS300? It's closer to your price, but not so much on the horsepower. It's pretty similar to the 3 series: I6, RWD, incredible handling, and sexiness. Of course, it also has Lexus reliability.

If you don't mind something slightly larger and slightly less sporty, you can get into and above your HP range in a 2nd Gen GS400/430. RWD + 300HP V8 is always nice. This might also fit the golf clubs better!

I would also consider a TL, but as stated above watch out for the tranny issues.

BTW, I've heard the LS is not very reliable. It's built on a Jag platform. My Dad used to work at Ford / Lincoln dealer, says watch out. They can have lots of problems.

Of course, all these recommendations are taking reliability into account as a large part of the buying decision.

I just went through this myself (sporty sedan, reliable import preferred, 10k budget), ended up with an IS300 after searching for 2 months.

Good Luck!!

I LOVE the V8 Lincoln LS's. Sporty as hell, powerful drivetrain, while sitting in luxury. I almost got one instead of our 04 Expedition, but the price of them was just a no.

thanks guys. I never would have thought about the IS or the Lincoln.

The auction that I have access to is heavy into GM, so I can usually find GTP's for cheap. Like mid 8's for an 04 GTP with mid 50k.

I'll have to look back through and see what kind of Lincoln's typically run. I know that Lexus is fairly rare down there...and I'm too cheap to pay anywhere near dealer retail.
