Help me solve a big problem!

Alright, so I recently reinstalled windows because of a problem I was having with my mouse (some sort of usb thing I think?) and everything is working fine... except... while playing BF2 my system will randomly crash and reboot. I've turned off auto reboot and the system will just hang on a blue screen. I've uninstalled my video drivers and reinstalled, reinstalled my mobo platform drivers and still the problem keeps happening. Before I reinstalled windows my system ran the game just fine.

I honestly am at an impasse, maybe you geniuses can help a brother out. Here is a pic of the error code windows code reporting gives me: Error

Here are my system specs (yes, it's an older system, but "should" be able to run BF2, albeit on low settings):

Athlon XP 2100+ Thoroughbred
Epox 8RDA+
Radeon 9500 PRO
1 GB PC3200 Kingston ValueRam
Antec True430 PSU
Onboard Sound (Realtek)

I'm simply out of ideas here.

what driver versions are you using?
when you reinstalled did you instal dx9,then chipset drivers, then update windows,..then performance drivers(sound, graphics etc) then everything else?
im assuming its an 8x agp system try setting it to 4x and see if it changes
why does the error link you gave take me to some chic's profile for match.com?
are you using the latest chipset drivers or the ones off the original cd?(screw cd drivers always use the latest,..copy them to a cd for windows instal if you must)

try a few of thses then run disk cleanup and defrag your hdd and report back

Drivers:

Video: Cat 5.11
Sound: 4.42
Chipset 5.10 unified (More specifically)

I've tried turning my card down to 4x and off with no luck. I did crank all the settings down in Cat control panel and it seems like it crashes less but still does so. I'll run cleanup and defrag and let you know if it seems to help.

I'm not sure I installed everything in that exact order, but I've never had a problem before (at least I don't think so) stemming from that, but who knows.

did you update to 5.11 around the same time?

and when you get an error messege what does it say it pertains to?,..sound?..ati dll er windows driver er?

It says windows could not distinguish the exact cause of the problem, just that it was due to a device but couldn't list which.

Yes I did update to 5.11 at the same time, I was running 5.09 I think before my reinstall, I thought about rolling back the driver...

what does the blue screen say at the bottom of the screen

or check your event viewer - system and tell us what the screen says for SYSTEM DUMP or SYSTEM error

As soon as I get home I'll check the event viewer and post what I find. As far the chip overheating that doesn't seem like the problem, both the nvidia system utility and the BIOS report core temps between 36-42 depending on load which as far as I know is acceptable for this chip. As far as the psu goes, mine is definatly high quality and should be more than this system needs, correct? Anything is possible though, so I don't rule it out, but why would it all of a sudden begin failing right after a fresh windows install when before nothing like this ever happened? Seems a bit too convenient. I think the proximity of the windows reinstall and the problem suggests it's something to do with the software since it's a major change that occured right before the problem started, it would logically seem they are related, right? I guess you can never tell though really, anything is possible.

More to come...

(and again, thanks to everyone who has replied, it's appreciated more than you know)

I'm pretty sure this is my exact psu: Antec True 430 @ NewEgg

does it happen in any other games besides bf2?

if the only thing different in your system from when it worked to when it didnt is the graphics driver,..uninstal 5.11 and instal the one you had before 5.09 you said?

i noticed on ati's site that the 9500pro is the only 9xxx series on the discontinued list that isnt an AIW(only the AIW 9700pro is on the list ,.the straight 9700pro isnt on it,which means its not considered "discontinued"like your 9500pro is),...your card may be gettin phased out of the drivers

looks like yoru card has joined the ranks of the rage 128 and the 8500
Discontinued List

No, it hasn't happened in any other game, but at the moment it is by far the most demanding game I play, other games I play are Battlefield 1942, WoW and Winning Eleven 8 Int'l and my girlfriend plays the Sims 2 on the machine as well, but she has only played it once since the reinstall.

Looking at the archived radeon drivers I'm not sure which driver I had been running, I think it was just prior to 5.10 and it looks like their driver version numbers don't necessarily go in order. I'll have to look and see if I still have the driver file from before, I hope I didn't delete it. If I did I guess I'll just have to make a guess at it.

Eh, yeah, that's great. :frown: I was planning on upgrading my system somewhat soon anway and/or replacing the video card as it's just not cutting anymore really. Seems like sort of a waste to buy another AGP card though when I will definatly have to upgrade in the next year or so no matter what in order to play the newer games, to jump to a PCI-E board though means replacing most everything.

anymore you can get away pretty cheap,...if youve got things like cd drives and a winxp os already then you could go real cheap,...youve got some ddr400 already,a power supply that would work ok if it is the truepower" 2 " thats 24-pin,...just look at the +12v rails and see what the ampage is and if it is the same one,..just get a cpu ,motherboard and graphics card and you may be set

athlon64 3000+ s939=$130
chaintech vnf4 ultra=69
geforce 6600gt pci-e=139
or
geforce 6800gs pci-e=199

all at newegg,..would be cheap and you would see nice gains from it,.. $300 or $360

Alright, the blue screen that comes up is blank, but when I check the event log, here is the relevant error:

Category 102 Event ID 103
Error code: 100000d1, paramerer 1 00000001 parameter2 00000007, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 ef49a375

Is that what you needed?

Kind of strange my psu lists my +12v rails @ 20A, the one @ newegg right now lists as 17A? Different? Still usable?

It looks like it's an original truepower... kind of annoying, total waste of a perfectly good psu if I can't use it.

the truepower 2.0 has dual +12v rails,..if you looks again at the one at newegg it has 2 of them combined it is more powerful regardless of overall wattage rating

if the motherboard connector is 20 pin instead of 24 you would need an adaptor to cut any probs on newer boards
