Help me settle a bet about Bill Gates...

I have $10 riding on this so I need some kind of proof to show him. What was the absolute highest net worth Bill Gates ever had? My friend says it was $500 billion and I said no way, argument ensues. The bet is whether he ever had over $150 billion or not. I'm 99.99999% it never reached this high, nor even over 100 billion.

Found it.

Adjusted for inflation, Rockefeller's net worth was only about $300 billion. Bill Gates was not even close to $500 billion. And Gates is considered "middle class" next to Rockefeller.

wiki says 101 billion

If I had $100 billion, I'd probably buy my own personal cruise ship and live on it. It's not enough to take over the world so what else am I going to do with it.

That's what Paul Allen does. He has a huge ass yacht that has two helipads and 2 submarines. and he has no where the money bill has.

He also blows it on the Seahawks and Blazers and probably lady friends.

But you know what I notice that the ultra rich somehow life throws them a wrench. they or a family member of theirs comes down with some disease and they often donate tons of money into helping to find a cure for it.

If I had even $1mil I would buy a cruising yacht and live on it.

Dude, why settle so low? Go Richard Branson and buy a whole island. Then you could have somplace to park your cruis ship.

Yeah what it takes is a lot more than a million to pay for fuel, moorage, maitenance, etc.

Million dollars isn't squat.

Ask any who are living on a similar boat, it can be done for as little as $1000/month, even less. Also, fuel? Did you even click the link, it's a sailboat. Sure, you may occasionally use the engines, but fuel is hardly a budget breaker.

Moorage is almost completely avoidable as well. It all depends on how you decide to live.

And it's hardly a "bomb shelter". It looks quite a bit smaller than it actually is.

I suppose it comes down to what you need to live comfortably. It doesn't take much for me.

Seriously, you could get a 50' or larger for well under 100k. That's a BIG freakin boat that you don't want to be sailing alone. Fuck fuel, that's for weekend 'gin palace' warriors and billionaires.

Can anyone find any other supporting evidence. He says he can't trust wikipedia.

Your friend is stupid.

A Microsoft's peak, the entire company was only worth about $500 billion:

All time high in Dec of 1999 of about $60 and there are 8.8b shares outstanding (probably even less then). Do the math. He has never owned more than 20% of so of the entire company, let alone the entire company. He owns less than 10% now.

Furthmore, NYTimes reports his highest net worth being $82b:

Your friend just doesn't want to pay up.
