I got a Itunes gift certificate, needless to say I want to get some good songs.
Now I am not looking for some cheesy slapped together electric beats and whatnot with a voice modulator changing a hoarse voice into something like an angel. No I am looking for decent rock songs. Not rap, pop or techno, just rock, alternative, etc.

Examples of good songs in my opinion:

Deftones -Change
Creed My Sacrifice
Nirvana
System of a Down
Foo Fighters
311
Lynyrd, Bad Company, to name a few old
et cetera

Examples of no good songs in my opinion:
The Killers
Coldplay
Bon Jovi
Avril Lavigne
Jet
Et Cetera

How about some stuff from Stone Temple Pilots? Their first album was so awesome.

A hidden gem is a band called OSI. The singer and keyboardist is the first keyboardist from Dream Theater. He left cause he didnt like the singer, which is the usual complaint about that band. The guitar player is from Fates Warning. Drummer is Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. Bass player is Sean Malone.

This is a super group, and they have written some pretty bad ass rock songs. I recommend "head" "the new math" and especially "shutdown"

these guys can groove. If you want a sample, check out seanmalone.net under the first section, grooving, check out the OSI track.

Boston - More Than A Feeling
38 Special - Hold On Loosely

Those are old school but they sound good cranked up driving down the road.

Why are Creed and System of a Down on that list, in the company of Nirvana?

I don't even like Nirvana but that is just sacrilege.

Agreed. What's wrong with the Killers and Coldplay. I like both and don't really hate other types of music. A good song is a good song regardless of "genre."

OSI is more accessible than DT for the average listener, but the new one by DT, Train of Thought, is pretty rockin. As I am and This dying soul are pretty tough, this dying soul sounds alot like Muddvayne. I recommended OSI because most people that dont like DT dont like the singer, and Kevin Moore, DTs first keyboardist left that band for the same reason. Kevin Moore is the singer of OSI, and sounds very much like the singer of Pink Floyd or Maynard from Tool. www.osiband.com

btw, OSI has dream theaters drummer, Mike Portnoy, who in modern drummer polls is always #1 progressive rock drummer by a landslide (for 8 years in a row)

yeah beverly hills was kinda weird the first time you listen to it-gets better and better though, however not as good as hash pipe as an opener for the album.

Which in turn sucked compared to "My Name is Jonas" as an opener.

what kind of rock music is this? just curious. Is it a 16 minute prog song or just repetitive?

Post rock is what it falls under. Instrumental guitar rock, focuses on the melody instead of just trying to be loud and obnoxious, and I dunno kicks ass. It's not repetitive or anything, just lots of guitars and flutes and drums and sh!t goin off. Also try Helicon 1 by them if you want to get all teary eyed.

Here is a live version of their song 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong. It's pretty good, the cd version is amazing.
