I am quite bummed out. I always keep it in a cloth pouch, and then inside a camera bag to keep it extra safe. The lense has a plastic accoridan cover that when you power down, it folds over the lense protecting it. Instead it has scratched the lense badly over the years. Canon will not do anything even after stating to them it was a design flaw as the plastic rubs the lense.

A good zoom is very critical.

Any recommendations?

What is your budget, and what will your primary use be? ( People, sports, flowers, running kids?)

Do you need tremendous amounts of zoom, or a little zoom?

Why is your cellphone camera insufficient for most of what you do?

1. Pictures of for sale items, and places I visit that have a variety of things for scenery, closeups of things, etc.

2. Often I do need zoom and for example, when I toured a cockpit of a B-17, it was roped off, so I had to zoom to get the fine print on the instruments and HIN tags.

3. I have an LG chocolate touch. Its from 2008. Camera sucks, and my plan does not support a smartphone that would have a good camera.

I still don't know your budget, but I'd say a starting point in an order I'd look given your use:
-Panasonic FZ200, FZ1000, LX100
-Sony RX 100 ( there are 4 variants; the oldest variant (still very good) has the most zoom.)
- Canon SX50/60, Panasonic FZ70

I would recommend Canon Powershot SX50 HS...it has 50X zoom and great picture. You will not regret with this. I heard there are some "meh" about new SX60 HS... Picture is not that great when you zoom out 60X.
