Help me remember this RTS game from the late 1990s

Late 1990s, after the release of C&C, and around the time of C&C Red Alert. Think Diablo, Half-Life, Quake II era,,,,,, sometime in there. Guessing the time was somewhere around 1996 - 1999. Maybe closer to 1998 or 1999.

It was a real time strategy game, if I remember right the box was shaped like a triangle. The game was set in a foreign world in something like a jungle setting.

The game was kinda like warcraft II, but in a futuristic setting instead of orcs, trolls and humans.

Was not Warcraft II or Warcraft III.
Was not Dune or Dune II.
Was not Total Annihilation
Was not part of the C&C series
Was not Starcarft

I remember seeing the game at wal-mart a few times but never bought it. There were a few write ups on a couple of gaming websites about the game, and I "think" it was even talked about in PC Gamer magazine. All of my pc gamer magazines from the late 1990s are gone, so I can not look through them.

Krush Kill n Destroy (KKND)?

No idea about that packaging hint, but KKND was basically a C&C ripoff.

Thanks guys, I think the game I am looking for is Dark Reign.

The only problem is, the box is not quit what I remember. Maybe walmart got a special box, or I am just getting Dark Reign mixed up with another boxed game I saw at walmart?

I remember reading the reviews, and wanting that game something awful, but I never did buy it.

I was just going to come post Dark Reign. It's not a triangular box but there is a large pyramid-esque picture on the front.

The only triangle box I can remember is a Jane's fighter jet game.

The box sounds like Rise of the Triad, which I think was was a FPS not a RTS. I haven't played it though, so it might have been the game you are talking about.

I was going to say Dark Reign! Dammit I'm too slow, I lose. Man I remember that game was quite fun. I bet if I scrounge around I can find a CD of it somewhere in my storage bin.

It looks like this:

My guess was also going to be Dark Reign. A great RTS game for its day. A sequel was made but it sucked in comparison to the original.

ressurecting this thread,

looking for an old RTS style game

it may very well be not a big game, and something that was obscure, shareware, and frankly terrible.. but its worth a shot

not starcraft
not CC

set in "space" or futuristic earth/planets

you had to look for ore to build your ships
your ships were little cars or tanks and you could choose what type of gun goes on each corner, like laser cannons, cloaking devices, shield devices, and for example your MCV had like 4-5 spots where you could put a weapon or defense mechanism

Ground Control?
Dark Colony?

To answer OP's question, the game is called Conquest Earth, not exactly triangle more trapezoid. I know. I have the box still among a few dozen other game boxes from that era.

Guys, THIS THREAD IS SIX YEARS OLD AND THE QUESTION WAS ALREADY ANSWERED.

The game they were talking about was Dark Reign.

ROFL, signs up to (incorrectly) answer a six year old question. I swear half the people on forums don't even read the threads.
