I think this movie came out around the late 90s, like 1998 to 2000. Heres the story line.
A sailor has a rich friend. He is on a shipping voyage when his ship has problems and they have to land on Napoleon's Island. Napoleon welcomes them, but slips a secret message to the sailor.
Almost immedietly, the sailor is caught with the secret message. The guy in charge was about to let the sailor go, but then he found out that his(guy in charge's) father was the person behind the plot to help napoleon to escape. The guy in charge then sentences the sailor to life in prison. The sailor runs away to his rich friend's house and asks for sancturary. THe rich friend however, has a fancy for the sailor's fiance, and turns the sailor in instead.
The sailor is sent to jail where he meets this old guy. The old guy teaches the sailor how to fight, and also manners/etc. The old guy dies in a few years however. The sailor is despearate and escapes. Just before the old guy dies, he gives the sailor a map to find riches. The sailor finds the riches, and goes back to france. There he has his revenge on the guy in charge and the rich friend. He finds that his fiance married the rich friend, but forgives her, kills the rich friend in a duel, and marries his fiance. The son that the fiance and the rich guy had was really the sailor's son, and the reason why the fiance married the rich guy was because of the baby. She didn't want it to live a bad life.
