Today my monitor has developed screen burn and i dont understand how it could have happened becuase the picture is never stood in the same place for a long period of time. The effected area is the top and bottom of the screen, the same place as the Title bar and the Taskbar. There is a very faint black line at the top from left to right and a barely noticeable line on the bottom.

What i cant understand is i have never had firefox open for a long period of time and if the machine is left unattended for 30 minutes my screensaver kicks in. Also i noticed a strange faint high pitched whistle come from my display when looking at this website so i dont know weather that has something to do with it.

Could it be possible my monitor has overheated and caused this? Its been very hot in england this past week and my room has been around 30C.

My main question is can the screenburn be recovered? I have turned off the VDU for 30 minutes to no effect. How long would i have to leave the monitor off for to see any benifit?

The monitor is 6 months old bought from new and its a 20" NEC LCD2080UXi w/ S-IPS

Input appriciated.

LCD monitors will never have screen burn..

High pitch noise will only occur on certain backgrounds due to some reason, even my LCD monitor will do that. It's nothing unusual so don't worry about that. Okey, you said there is a very faint black line. It seems that the backlights had been dead. If it's still in warrenty NEC will replace the backlight for you.

LCD monitors can get screen burn-in, but its usually reversible. Use a full white screen as your background (or screen saver) for a while, and it usually gets rid of burn-in. You can try using a program like dead-pixel buddy to give you an all-white screen.

Yes i did some reasearch last night (i should have done this before i posted a thread) and i found out about screen burn in. I have the marquee screensaver set to kick in after 1 minute idle with a white background and no text and i have also switched back to the windows classic xp sytle with the default blue background. The line is still there but much better than it was, hopefully after a few days this will go.
Thnx anyway.
