Well, my PS2 is getting fairly loud IMO. It was loud when I first bought it, but it's gotten more annoying over time :( Anyone here have any experience in making it quieter? It's well out of warranty, so I don't mind opening it up. Any links and/or suggestion are welcome, thanks in advance

I think mine's pretty loud too, but my case fans along with the CPU fan are so noisy that I don't really think of the PS2 as "loud" anymore. Just curious, how long is a PS2's warranty? I've had mine since the year they came out I think.

:shocked:Fire up some old time rock n roll to drown out the noise. ;)

Short of that only a hammer will cure it.

I have no idea how long the warranty is, it could be 90 days to a year, but I've had mine for a lit longer than that. As for case fans and what not being noisy, I have Panaflows [SP?] throughout my rig, so I'm hoping to make my PS2 quiet as well :)

Try just opening it and cleaning the fan first. You could also try to find a quiet replacement but you'd have to be sure it would work.

Failing that, turn up the volume on the game!

I have cleaned the dust off from my fan M4H. During the day, w/ my PS2 sound through my HT setup, the noise doesn't bother me as you can't really hear it, it's late at night when I don't want to disturb the neighbors that the fan noise if annoying as h*ll :( Any ideas where I can find a quiet replacement?

What size fan is it? It's gotta be a 12-volt fan. Just find out the size and buy a new one. Simple.

PS2 stock warranty is only 90 days...

With the failure rate on the old PS2s you'd be nuts not to extra-warranty it.

I've had it since GT3 came-out, it's a little late for an extended warranty :(

No, for me to drown out the fan noise completely, my little HT seup is a bit loud for my neighbors after midnight.

I was pleased when I opened mine up; it was simple enough. My problem was the drive noise and read errors. After the usual "fix" of messing with the laser, etc, I wiped down the rails and sprinkled win-oil to taste. Also did a general cleaning and dusting out, which helped it out in performance and really cut down on the noise. (something which wasn't my biggest concern) While it still needs a bit of tweaking (after a year I should do it again) it's still working good.

If you do run across any easy tweaks for noise please share, it'd be appreciated. ;)

I've got a way to make is SILENT Zim.

Next time you're playing a game, just pour some water on the PS2. You'll be amazed how quiet it will be from now on!

Is it really that easy (and safe) to open it up? I don't wanna go out and buy a new one and I still wanna be able to play my games, but it'd be nice to give it a good dusting. I've got this thing that's basically CO2 or something and it does a really good job, but I'd love to be able to get all the insides.

go to home depot and get a can of "great stuff" (expanding insulation)
Squirt it into the PS2 - guarantee it will be quiet.
