And you want to stop him why? Are you friends with the guy? If so it shouldn't matter what he wears, it's his stuff to flaunt win or fail. If you are worried about being seen with him (again assuming your friends or something) that's an even more lame reason to want him to stop. If you don't really know him then it's really puzzling that you should care at all?!

i don't give a shit what he wears and i would've gladly walked to class with him with it on but i was just trying to convince him otherwise.

It really depends. If it looks really childish then obvious it'll look horrible but if its made out of canvas and has a retro feel to it, it might be ok, dependingon the crowd he hangs with.
