I will try to make this informative but short, and that's hard to do as long winded as I am. LOL

I have a problem now that I changed to CoMo fiber optics for my internet. Inside the house is fine for reception of the WiFi but out in the shop (garage), about a mere 40 foot from the house and oh, I'd say 80 feet from the actual CoMo modem/router there is absolutely terrible reception even with a cheapie ElectriK City signal booster with 6dbi antenna on the laptop out there. So I need to boost my signal.

Problem is that CoMo's modem/router has no external antenna and not a very good one integrated. A friend across town said they have their own Netgear (twin external antennas) router plugged into the CoMo router to boost their signal for computers upstairs. Everyone just now got fiber optics internet in town 25mbps-50mbps hallelujah!!! (never get 50mbps tho but that's a norm)

Trouble is, when I called CoMo (here in Missouri) they said they do not offer tech support for customer owned routers to act as a bridge or extender or anything at all for that matter.

SO please, can anyone tell me how to set up a router to act as a WiFi extender? The CoMo router/modem has 4 Ethernet ports on the back of it, so I assume I run an Ethernet cable from the CoMo router to my LinkSys router (twin 6dbi antennas), but what settings do I need to change? I am sure as far as I know, that there are certain settings I need to input to change it from a normal router function to act as a signal booster for the CoMo router.

Thank you in advance and I hope that was short enough. LOL

One of the routers needs to be set to bridge mode. Then connect the router-router's ethernet to the bridge-router's ethernet. Or you might need to connect the bridge-router's WAN port to the router-router's ethernet port.

Okay, I think I can understand that (smiling) I will try it and see what success I have then get back with you on it. Thanks allot for the info.

PS: setting that bridge router up, do I need to install the bridge-router's CD setup data on the computer also, in order to work it into the network?

I'm pretty computer savvy but doing this is new to me.
