Oh he's still online, he just dropped into "why did I open my gob on a ruthless online forum, I must wet my pants in fear of discovery by my ISP and lurk for a good few weeks" mode.

If you're going to share the access.. then give them quotas. I think you can do this through the router... give them say 1GB a month. They're getting free access so they shouldn't b!tch.

common man..they are only using PIIs running Win 95 or something like that and the kids need to do homework.
If that were true, there would be no way in hell that the six of them could have accounted for that much bandwidth. In 11 days of heavy useage (i.e. streaming content, more than just browsing and E-mail) I have 380 MB down / 55 MB up and that includes a one-time backup of the site I run (a little over 100 MB). Your useage is more than 100 times that. I'm sorry, but six people using just the basics will NEVER hit the useage you have seen, in most cases they wouldn't even exceed the amount of useage I've managed.

I call shennanigans.

That pretty much sums it up.

It's perfectly possible to run 45GB in 12 days with six people sharing a line.
I don't see how he's an attention whore.
He definately doesn't deserve to get banned.. what a crappy place ATOT would be if people got banned cause what they said is unpopular.

a friend of mine in nb got one of these the other week.

they cut his service. he called and yelled at them and told them that if it wasn't restored by the end of the dya he was cancelling all his cable services. they told him they were sorry they lost his business.

the last time he talked to them i think they said they would give it back to him.

in conclusion: stop running your ftp.

I've had the same thing with my cable connection (shaw). Just be good for a week or so, and then slowly crank up again.

It's not the downloading they care about, it's the uploading. Put caps on the uploads and you'll be fine.

No I haven't seen his other threads. From this thread alone he doesn't seem like an attention whore. If I had seen those other threads I might have a different opinion, but I try not to spend too much time in OT ;)

that's what you get for making assumptions huh.

next time mb ASK why people are reacting so extremely, sometimes there are good reasons for it.

So calling someone a liar isn't making an assumption? I don't read every thread here so I call it as I see it, and from this thread alone I can't reasonably come to the conclusion that he's a liar or an attention whore. It would be rather judgemental of me to follow those conclusions just because others were reacting negatively don't you think?

a little OT, but does anyone know what "acceptable" bandwidth per month is?

Just keep the uploads down and you'll be fine. They don't care how much you download (or so the ISP guy said to my 2 friends who have been caught before), but they don't like uploads.

nanyangview must be related to my old neighbor, He had a half the block hooked up to his free cable( about 10 houses) and was charging people half price, so he was making about $200 a month plus free cable.
That all came to end when one of his elderly cable subscribers called the cable company to complain about the smut she saw on HBO and wanted it removed.
It looked like a huge bust when they figured out what he had been up to, Cops/Cable employees and a couple news crews all walking up and down the street.
Last I heard they charged him a for a year of service for everyone he had hooked up and $5000 fine, plus the criminal charges.
The funny part > I warned him what might happen if he was caught and he just laughed and said "They'll disconnect me that's all they ever do"

I'm calling Shens, why? Because any midsize or larger ISP will cap their d/l - upload limits, and most can control how much bandwidth is flowing through the pipes. The reason they cap it is so that nobody slows down their network. If they were really concerned they would have just capped him even more, and sent a letter notifying him why. I have never heard of any company, who has limits set on their routers/switches/backbones, sending out a letter such as this imbecile has posted. There's a reason why companies with caps of for example, 500K, will charge more if you want 1MB, 1.5, or 2MB/sec bandwidth. I don't know how big Rogers is, but it sounds like they aren't some little new sht startup company who would just open up their pipes and allow UNLIMITED bandwidth transfer speeds... Almost all larger broadband companies have caps set in place, allowing for idiots who do use alot of bandwidth.

nanyangview is full of sht!!

Um, from your link: "Network capacity is sized in Mbps, not GB per month. Degradation starts to occur when the bandwidth demand exceeds the bandwidth supply. I would like to think that the network is designed (and upgrades planned) based on peak loading (in Mbps) rather than average bandwidth usage per month (in GB)."

Realize that Comcast is a large company with many localities who can regulate their own little "provinces" of jurisdiction... of course some are going to be asshles to their customers. That's like saying, all policemen in the state of Pennsylvania follow the rules. If a cop is having a bad day, he's going to punish the perp in the way HE feels necessary, just as some of the Comcast divisions are behaving. I think it's safe to say that 8 out of 10 users (which is the majority) are going to be ok with Comcast, just as 8 out of 10 officers won't break the rules.

Back to the first quote in this post. Comcast (in most cases) is not going to sell more bandwidth than they could provide. Even if they DID, they could cap anyone they wanted to. Hell, I can cap anyone coming off my router who's using P2P if I want, and I do it all the time. I don't see why a company would threaten to cut someone off based on total GB's d/led, that's irrelevant because the company can calculate the maximum GB's d/l in a month [24hoursX30Days(.015GB/sec)]. Furthermore, most companies do not sell their services by maximum GB d/l but maximum bandwidth speed. I can't see how, legally, this threat would fly when someone has paid for 1.5MB/sec access to their services.

I see what you're saying, but what I was negating was this:
Because any midsize or larger ISP will cap their d/l - upload limits, and most can control how much bandwidth is flowing through the pipes. The reason they cap it is so that nobody slows down their network. If they were really concerned they would have just capped him even more, and sent a letter notifying him why.
That's not what is happening. With users that are exceeding their imaginary quotas (or unpublished quotas, if you prefer), they simple send a letter, then in most cases, discontinue service. They don't institute a cap, they instead threaten to discontinue service based on total GB d/l'ed per month.
