Help me pickout parts.

1. Desktop will be used for gaming but in the beginning it only needs to play games a few years old. (HL2) I want it to be a good platform to upgrade off of in the future.

2. My budget is under 200$. My own calculations using new egg put the cost at around 180$. (Using Friday 13th sales)

3. I will be buying from the USA.

4. AMD would be preferred if only because of price.

5. I have an ATX case and a 250GB Seagate Barracuda ATA HD.

6. This is what i found through my own efforts.

7. I might experiment with some overclocking but for now its not a priority.

8. I will be buying the parts before Friday, and building whenever they arrive. (So this is last second.)

You'll want to go with sata for that mobo. $95 for 1 TB $70 for 640GB. You need a vid card, go with a 4850 for $150. Finally, downgrade the ram. You need a PSU $50 for 500 watts.
Thats puts you at a minimum spending of about $500. I suggest you also get the Antec 900 case. Normally it is $150, now it is $60 for thanksgiving.

I decided to go with this instead of the phenom since I wont benefit much from the extra cores for awhile anyway. What wattage power supply would I need for this?

I just noticed that that mobo is micro atx, can I use a standard atx case with it?

And I planed on going with the integrated video for awhile and buy the card at a later date. Same gos for the ATA hardrive I currently have.

Thanks for your reply.

Spent $234.46 Total.

I'm going to buy a few more things gradually over the next couple months.
More RAM
SATA HD
Dedicated Video Card

Any recommendations?
Thanks for all your help by the way!

Very poor PSU choice (Rosewill can be serviceable, but it's iffy -- and that unit is still expensive). You could have gotten the Antec Earthwatts 650 or a Corsair for that money.

I wouldnt go with the Phenom 9600 Agena. Arnt those the chips with the TLB problems ? Which causes around 10% performance drop with the fix ?

For the same price, you could get a excellent Intel motherboard like the GIGABYTE UD3R and a Intel E7300 Dual Core for $119 that should totally kick the hell out of the Phenom.

G-SKILL Memory

And I would go with this memory. Only a few dollars more, and you get a total of 4 GIG.

And I also agree on the Rosewill...it simply isnt good enough. A few months back, my younger brother bought a Rosewill 500 I think *the one with a big blue led fan* and when he received it.....he hooked it up and his 7900GTX killed it instantly. He since then returned it and purchased a Corsair.

I would suggest NOT going with Rosewill for a power supply.

EDIT: This power supply here is leaps and bounds better than the Rosewill. Will outperform it and is only $10 more. CORSAIR POWER SUPPLY UNIT

We will see how the PSU works when I get the case in and try it out.

I actually got the Athlon 64 2x 5000+ Brisbane instead of the Phenom.

Ah crap...

Hooked everything up, no problems, tried to power on and..... lights come on.... fans spin.... and nothing comes on the screen....

Any idea what could have gone wrong?

I think its the mobo, seems other people have been having this problem as well...

Edit: I pulled the battery then reinserted and now i get a bios prompt. I can now power on and off without any problems, so all is fine unless there is a larger issue.
