I recently sold my old computer on EBAY, so I need to build my computer pretty quickly. This is what im looking to get.

AMD XP Processor with at least 1800+ MHz
Asus Motherboard (I dont need a dual MB, also has to be expandable so i can put 2 Gigs of RAM)
Crucial or Kingston DDR Ram (at least 512MB)
A Good Sound & Vid Card (64mb)
Power Supply,Floppy, CD-Rom, and at least a 40x CD-RW ( In Hot Deals I recently saw that you can buy a 40x Lite-On CDRW from Dell.com for about $80, anyone know if their are any hot deals floating around for a cd-rw)

Someone told me about NEWEGG to buy the parts, can someone recommend me another website which has good items, customer service, and not too expensive on shipping.

Another question I have is about the Power Supply, someone told me I need a specefic amount of Wattage for everything to run smoothly. What is a good PS brand and what wattage should i be getting. I dont want to get any generic brand. Thanks

What in the world do you need 2 gig of RAM for?

Anywho:

Mobo: ASUS A7V333 (max 3 gig RAM/ATA133)
RAM: I've had good luck with Crucial
Sound Card: I like the Turtle Beach SC, but any of the SB Audigys should do you right as well
Vid Card: Geforce 4 4200 is the current best deal in terms of bang for buck (can be O/Ced if you need more oomph)
CD-RW: I'd stick with Plextor. They seem to be the one brand that few have "issues" with. A 40x will run you about $135 at Newegg
Power Supply: Make sure you get something on the "AMD approved list" and go with at least 300w....350 or 400 if you plan to stuff your case with hardware.

I've had nothing but good luck with newegg, so I can't really recommend anyone over them. You may find better deals on things here and there, but they are almost alway within 10% or so of the bottom prices on pricewatch.com and have waaaay better customer service than some of the bottom-feeders offering good deals on PW.

Expect every component in your comp casting loud vacume-like noise when you turn it on :) can't help but laugh at comps like that :D :D :D

Look into the NForce 415 boards. Has all the bells and whistles of NForce without the on-board video.
Supposed to have great sound. I might go this route myself but haven't decided yet.

For the Motherboard I would get the Shuttle AK35GT2R. Great board. Has the High Point Raid, C-Media 5.1 sound card, and has the KT333 chipset. It also has 4 DDR-Dimm slots and can hold up to 4gig of reg. RAM.
For hard drive get the Maxtor 740 series.
Crucial has a coupon and free shipping right now so look their first.
Video card. Anything with GeForce 2 or higher. Depends on how much gameing you do. If not much then get the GTS-V from newegg, if its a lot then look at anything with the ti4200.
Sound card is on-board and it supports 5.1, and its great. I have the older version of this board, the AK35GTR, and it has the same sound card.

As far as dealers, I use Newegg.com first then Mwave.com second.

Good luck.

Processor: AMD XP1800+ (note: It's not actually 1800Mhz, it's 1.53Ghz)
Motherboard: MSI KT333 Ultra-ARU.
RAM: 512MB Crucial or Corsair PC2700. CAS2 if you can afford it.
Sound card: ASUS and MSI should have 6 channel sound built in
Video card: ATI Radeon 8500 or Geforce4 Ti4200
Power supply / case: You should be fine with a 300/350W power supply. Antec SX1030 case is good and roomy.
CD-RW: Liteon 40x

You really don't need another CDROM unless you're copying discs or playing multiple ones or something.

Newegg and GoogleGear are two great places to shop. Right now Googlegear is a bit cheaper on shipping.

Googlegear- forgot about them. I have never ordered from them but some people have started talking about them.

But get the Shuttle AK35GT2R Mainboard
