Hey guys, I will have a pretty high end system in about a month and am interested if anyone knows of a ups to use that is pretty reliable. I have heard things about oscilating sine wave instead of stable being bad or soemthing but i know nothing about which ones have it or not.

Thanks in advance.

Well I will have a computer with the following:
-x2 3800+ (maybe 4400) overclocked
-2X1gb ballistix
-probably a 7800gtx but who knows with all these crazy things happening with vid cards in the next month or two i might sli later
powerstream 520w
ultra dfi mobo
3-4 hds
antec p180
and some other crap that goes into a comp 🙂

I am not sure if i should hook my monitor (22'' crt for now) up to it (is that even necessary?)

I guess same question goes for my 2 speakers with subwoofer as monitor.

So pretty much i guess if the answer to both of those is no then just the computer mentioned above

That monitor will suck the juice...I'd not hook it up if possible, since it's likely the UPS would come with a monitoring / automatic shutdown utility. You could get a small lcd screen and vga switch if a screen was necessary, but I've found that the most frequent use of my UPS comes from brief outages...

well yea, i'm just wondering which one to get though =)
I wouldn't need it for like "exterme circumstances" i just want something that will prevent those little blips of no power from shutting down my comp suddenly

I am never really doing anything critical enough to need more than like 2 - 5 minutes (usually less) of power

Well, at peak usage on your 520w psu, you'd be looking at about 730VA, however 1000VA UPS's aren't too cheap, and is probably way more than you need, since it wouldn't be likely you'd every hit peak usage on that PSU, so I'd recommend a 500VA UPS. APC seems to be a pretty popular / trusted brand.

Replacable batteries are a plus. You may also want to considered something with RJ-45 and RJ-11 surge protection.
