And price is no object.... but within reason. I'm not spending $400 on a video card (I'm saving that for the new system standards that will surface within three years or so).

Newegg is preferred.

The Radeon 9700 pro is the fastest you're going to get today unless you count the Geforce hairdryer fx.
If you're really on a budget you can get a ti4200 for about $140 and overclock it to at least ti4400 speeds.

if you cant afford a radeon 9700 pro, the 9500 pro revision board is pretty sweet too

I wouldn't go for the 9700 pro at this time...it's going to be out of date pretty soon and there will be a price drop.

That's what I was thinking.

Anyone recommend a good quality GF4 or Radeon card between $150 and 250 that will still run BF1942, Nightfire, Splinter Cell, etc?

Radeon 9500 Pro

You won't notice much difference in those games between the 9500 and 9700 pros.

That's what I was leaning towards... does anyone have any brand recommendations?

Hey Zakath15...

I have the Gainward Geforce 4 4200 (128mb ddr) (8X Agp) and I bought it for $175.00 3 months ago. It has both Analog/Digital DVI output, and it comes with it's own Overclocking software.

I can play bf1942, UT2K3 and NoLF 2 with everything maxed at 1280x1024x32 bit. I have a LCD monitor so I can't bump the resolution past that point anyway. I'm extremely happy with this card and I fell it will give me at least 2 years of performance.

My specs:

AMD 2.0XP
512 mb (3200) ddr
100 gig (8mb. cache) Western Digital HD
Geforce 4 4200

Specs:

Athlon 1.4Ghz
512MB DDR - Crucial, I think.
Epox 8k7a
Seagate BIV 40gig - primary
IBM Deskstar 60gig - secondary
soon to be WD 120gig - secondary

i just spent 2 weeks searching for a new video card, and the 9700 pro is the best if you arent on a budget. however i was in the under 100 dollar range. went to compusa to try to find one and they had a bunch of stuff on a table that they were blowing out if you signed up for aol, (didnt have to install it, just sign up). Long story short gor a radeon 600 (64 megs on board, dual monitor out, dvi) for 10 bucks...look into it. YMMV

I may. I prefer Newegg, personally, and I'll be purchasing some new hardware/networking stuff this week anyway.

Another vote for the R9500 Pro. I'm happy with my ATi-built one, but I haven't heard anything negative about the other brands, either.

Video Cards are over rated.

I'm still using my Creative Labs RivaTNT(1) that I bought for 95$ way back.. damn, don't remember when.. a long time ago.

I'd still get the 9700 Pro.

$302 at Newegg for the Powercolor version.

GET IT! You won't be sorry. It has enough speed to last you for a year, easy...
