Help me pick out a new case!

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be building a new Sandy Bridge system when the motherboards are once again available. However I'm so impatient/bored that I decided to get the Case/Cooling System/Wire Management now so I can work on it when I have some free time.

My previous case was a Lian Li PC-61B with a Window on the Side Panel... A great case that served me well for 6 years.

Now I'm looking for a new case with a nice look, great ventilation, enough room for a Sandy Bridge System with 1 SSD, 1 HD, 1 eVGA GTX 580 (May go SLI in the future), 1 Optical Drive, and an ASUS Xonar Essence Sound Card, a Heatsink is another possibility, I'm just unsure on which one to get when the time comes. I'm planning on going all out with the Cable Management so room behind the Motherboard Panel would be a nice feature, but not necessary. In all honest the most important thing is how it'll look on my desk.

The only case that has really caught my eye is...

LIAN LI ARMORSUIT PC-P50R Red Aluminum
I personally think its an awesome looking case, my only problem with is the AMD Decal, but its something I can ignore. I would love any recommendations you guys would have. I'm looking to spend anywhere between 200 and 350 Dollars.

I'm in the same boat, though I'm also looking at the case to move my socket 775 to for awhile since my ancient Antec SLK case has poor airflow that requires loud fans.

Along with the Antec 900, I've been looking at the Silverstone Raven RV02 and Fortress FT02. SilentPCReview gives them a thumbs-up for quiet cooling, and user reviews at Newegg are positive.

I heard great things about the Silverstone Raven RV02, but I'm vary of choosing it because of the fact that it has way more plastic then it should. I've always loved Lian Li cases because they are 100% Aluminum. However the Raven RV02's design its really intriguing.

I just checked out SILVERSTONE RV02B-EW...

It honestly looks like the case I'm going to buy, unless someone can recommend a better case? The only things I'm disappointed about with this case are that they removed the screwless drive bays and that the Fans aren't LED, Whats the point of a side panel window when you can't see whats inside? Cathode Lights are such a bother...

I'm a big fan of the CoolerMaster HAF series. EXCELLENT air flow, quiet fans, and they're not lit up like Times Square.

BUT, if you like such things...the fans are replaceable with LED fans.

Did you look at the SS FT02? It's the same case as the RV02-EW, but made out of aluminum and steel instead of steel and plastic.

The fortress definitely looks like a nice case, I'm however going to wait because of the release of RV03 and compare that to the RV02, RV01, Lian Li, and FT02. The FT03 that just came out looks a bit too plain/discreet for me. And the TJ11 is way too expensive.

However if anyone else still has some other recommendations, I appreciate you posting them.

If your coming from a Lian Li in my humble opinion anything else will be a let down, I'd personally wait and see what new cases they have to show at CeBITT in two weeks.

On a side note i just took my sandy bridge build out of my corsair 800D and stuck it into my four year old 99$ lian li pc-7b and watched my temps fall from 40c to 29c at idle.

The Lian-Li Armorsuit can be had without the AMD branding. Personally I like the Coolermaster Haf series, or the NZXT Phantom.

The only disadvantage to the Phantom is it's constructed out of plastic. Of course that's only a disadvantage if based on your personal preferences.

I have the Raven 2, and the plastic actually isn't as bad as you'd imagine. The cooling (at least on air) with the RV-02/FT-02 is unrivaled, though.

Re: Waiting for the RV-03... Have you seen it? It's hideous!

Which RV-03 have you seen? The one the showed in 2010 was pretty bad, especially with the ridges that popped out on the top... But 2011's version is much tamer, though the gold trimming is a bit weird, I could still make it work.

Someone mentioned that the Lian Li Armorsuit can be bought without the AMD Decal, but is the Dragon still there?

Quick Question...
Lian Li ArmorSuit PC-P50R Red Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer CaseSilverStone RV01B-W Steel ATX Full Tower with Reinforced Plastic Computer Case
SilverStone RV02B-EW 0.8 mm Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Between these 3 which ones are able to easily fit an Extended ATX? Specifically the ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME?

Check the Silverstone site, you might want the older Raven 01. I thought I read that it fits larger-than-ATX motherboards but the 02 lost that.

None of them.

As Dave Simmons said, the RV01 is the only SilverStone Raven that fits an E-ATX board. I don't think Lian Li makes an E-ATX mid tower anymore, you have to move up to their full towers to get E-ATX. The last one was the V1200 IIRC.

Edit: actually, I'm not sure... That case doesn't look like a full size E-ATX board. It looks a bit bigger than a standard ATX board, but it appears to still use the ATX mounting holes and not those used for E-ATX boards.

A case is almost like picking a woman. It might look beautiful to one person but ugly to another. We all got our own taste. So OP what do you want in a woman I mean case? Do you want a good looking slim one or a big fat ugly one with lots of space?

I think if you need graphics card cooling to be a top priority, raven 02 is excellent as well as the more traditional Haf 922/932/X series. I am personally partial to well ventilated cases and Antec Lanyboy Air is currently my dream case, although my haf 932 is excellent as well. Lian Li is also great for their aluminum constructions, although most of their cases has poor side ventilation for the video card, I personally think isn't too suitable if you have a powerful card that gives up lots of heat.
