Hi there!

I'm new here.~ I'm looking to purchase a 22" glossy, widescreen monitor. There's a lot of choices out there & I'm not exactly sure what would be the best one for me.

I was eyeballing this one, from Samsung:

But I hear that Dell makes some really nice monitors, too. Would you all mind sharing your opinion & helping me make a selection?

Thanks for your time.

You need to specify what purpose you need it for. For gaming you need fast response so that there is no smudging, the same applies to movies. Also contrast and color depth matter but less so if you are not doing any video or photo work...

I needed 22" wide screen for general purpose including multi tab/window software use (Cubase) and NO photo video editing. Got ilyama Prolite 2200.

Happy so far. But:
(1) I was too lazy to calibrate colors - I am sure I could do this - they are slightly over saturated.
(2) A big drawback is that it looks poor when viewed from vertical angle (from below)

Other then that it was excellent buy but as you can see it all depends on what you need the monitor for.

the HP w2207 looks very nice and has some good ratings.

I picked up the Acer AL2216WbD 22" WS LCD from OfficeDepot for $180.00 last week. I say the w2207 at OD at the same time, however I could not justify paying close to $350 for the HP vs the Acer.

The Acer looks good and is much better after I calibrated the color using the Spyder2Pro Studio software and hardware.

I do some graphic & web design work- but it's more of a hobby than profession, so I don't need to spend $1,000.00 on a perfect monitor. The most I'm willing to spend is $400-450.00. I like the glossy monitors... Sorta tired of the matte look. :/ I ordered the Samsung one I mentioned in my first post, but, am disappointed with it. It's really a beautiful monitor & has great color & no dead pixles & all that stuff, but, it's not glossy & it won't work with the DVI cable. My graphics card is a 7950 GT that's factory overclocked. I'm not exactly sure why it won't work with the DVI cable. So... I'm going to return it. :/ I bought an extra DVI cable, so I don't really care if the new monitor doesn't have one.

I want a glossy monitor, with a good response time (8 seconds or below). 22 inch, widescreen preferred. :)

Thanks for your time. :)

Oh, and ForumMaster, I did read that official LCD thread. :)

You only have one choice. The only glossy 22" on the market as far as I know is the HP W2207. All other monitors are matte or matte-like finishes. Some companies will offer what's called "BRIGHT" technology in some of their monitors but they will never match the brightness on a pure glossy like the W2207.

Instead of the Samsung 226BW I would recommend you look into the 226CW if you're still looking into that.
