I'm thinking about picking up an inexpensive networked security camera for my apartment and have looked at a couple on Amazon so far but wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with them.

Things that I require in it:
  • Viewable from mobile device or desktop PC
  • 1080p preferred but 720p acceptable
  • Two way audio. I want to hear what's going on but also be able to talk through the device
  • SD card compatible to store any recorded video. Without SD card it just streams and doesn't record anywhere
  • About $100 or less
I guess that's about it. Some sort of night vision mode is fine, as long as it's decent and not some gimmick, but not really necessary.

I've checked out the Yi Home Camera which is only $40 for 720p but people are questioning the privacy policy. I don't think it's really that different from any competitors' but the part about "pixels" is kinda weird. And currently you can't view feed on a desktop; it's mobile app only.

So I'm kind of leaning towards either the 720p or 1080p Yi camera at this point but am not set on it. I'm thinking now, though, that it would be nice to expand this in the future if I wanted (say, if/when I buy a home). So it might be a good idea to ensure that the system is expandable, though I don't really know what that entails.

Thanks for suggestions!

I am using a wireless Samsung SNH-V6414BN camera. I purchased it at Sams for about $75 clearance price a few months ago. So far, I like it.

It has all (if not most) of your requirements, not sure about if it is 1080p or not but the video is very good, even at night. You can make adjustments the sensitivity of video and audio to trigger the alarm.

I went back to Sams but they are all gone from the store and the website and Amazon price is $100/each.
