help me pick out a bass guitar for me

I've been playing bass guitar for about a month or two now, and I enjoy it quite a bit. But I've outgrown my rental, and need to pick out a bass that hits a few requirements
I want a 4 string,
high quality
$400-600
I have kinda small hands, so a thin neck is good
looks cool
not too large (I'm about 5'9-5'10 and 135lb and want to be able to handle it well)
I had more but thats all I can think of as of now. Thanks for any help

It's been years since I've played, but I always liked Ibanez bass guitars. You can usually find very decent ones for around $500 (I think I paid $550 for mine, but that was 7 years ago and I've since sold it when I quit playing). Only way to really know for sure is check out some local music shops and try them out. I used to drive the people at local music outlet nuts because I was in there every other day for over a week before I finally picked one out.

the ibanez i played at guitar center was nice... ive always liked us made fender p-basses.. id say just go to your local guitar center and try one out.. that'd probably be the best way to chose 😉

I'll second the fender p-bass, definitely a good bang for the buck. I have a Peavey T-20 bass that's kind of old but sounds great and isn't too expensive, if you could find one used I'd definitely recommend it.

The thing is, I live in a town that doesnt have that great of bass guitar selection, so instead of going there and blindly buying one, I'm looking for opinions on some guitars I could potentially buy over the internet.

Fender will definitely provide the best resale, and the Precision is a really nice, timeless design. A lot of this depends on what you are after in terms of tone - I have always had a weakness for the tone of Rickenbacker basses as well.

What options do you have then? Maybe then we can give you some better help. I wouldn't buy one over the internet, you have to play it first to know if you'll like it. I would recommend getting something used if possible, that way you get a lot better guitar for your money. It's like buying a car, you pay a lot just for the fact that it's new, even though one that's a few years old is just as good.

I was hoping that someone would have considerable knowledge of bass guitars (I'm not saying you guys don't) and would recommend a bass that would probably fit those conditions. I can't really practice out on many because of the small town deal, so maybe if I take a vacation to Denver or something I can pick one out.
