So here is the story, I will be buying a computer in about mid september or so.
Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon X2 4400+ or 3800+
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
2X Crucial Ballistix 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 500 (PC 4000) System Memory
OCZ Powerstream 520W
ANTEC P180 Case
nvidia 7800GTX
THERMALRIGHT XP-90 Heatsink + Panaflo L1A (maybe zalman 9500 if it's as good as they say)
DVD ROM
PVR
UPS

I will overclock everything that can be overclocked.

Anyway, I bought 2 raptors a month ago for raid 0 (not for the speed gain but because i wanted 150gb for my main drive) then poeple started telling me that the SATA II hitachi drives would be almost as good and cheaper.

The thing is i will use the comp as a pvr as well so i need plenty of hard drive space. I will be playing plenty of games so i am not sure 74gb is enough for system + games. How much of a diff would i actually notice between a hitachi drive (8.5 ms avg seek time) and a 74gb raptor?

Thanks

The performance difference is negligible. If you already have the raptors I would suggest just using them for your system drive (and even some games if you want to) and get a hitachi just to record stuff onto. Then you'll have the best of both worlds.

Performance difference is a few seconds, that's why I traded my raptor for a 300 GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 :D.

Btw, don't get micron ram, get TCCD.

Why? the ballistix will be able to run at up to like 280mhz with 3-3-3 timings ... many people are getting that. This will allow me to 1:1 with my cpu when i OC it (which is only a few % gain but still something) Why TCCD over micron?

why not run 2:3 there really isnt a big decrease in performance you wont even notice.

Micron?...

My ballistix (pc3200 though) only went up to 250 fsb.
A lot of reviewers also only got up to 255 with pc4000 ram.

So... I sold em. and got OCZ PC4800 Platinum ram :D
