Building a new pc and want a good solid 850w psu (i won't be OC or water cooling), I want stable and quiet thinking of these two -
Corsair rm850x
EVGA G2 850w

Both are similarly priced right now and seem to offer similar capabilities so any recommendations?

Pick whichever of those is cheaper.

I'm curious what kind of monster rig you're going to be powering if you need 850W.

I am still in the process of building but some of the items
Define R5 case
Asus Z170 Pro motherboard
Intel 6500 cpu
16gb ram (haven't decided yet)
A decent GPU with the possibility of dual video cards in the future (haven't decided yet)
500gb ssd
1tb hd
24x dvd-rw

Somethings I would like to add, I like to build a unit to last 5+ years with upgrades of video/ram/cpu during that time so I'm trying to make sure I'm covered if I go dual gpu, faster processor, more ram. Also with rebates the 850w units are pricing out around the 750w units.

From my point when you buy EVGA you buy quality.

i5-6500 will probably bottleneck dual high end graphics cards. i7-6700K would be more appropriate - so if you do go dual GPU you will probably want to upgrade the CPU at the same time.

Makes sense. Your upgrade options with regard to the CPU are i7-6700 (not a big upgrade), i7-6700K (with overclocking it's a good upgrade), or the Kaby Lake equivalents to be released.

16gb ram (haven't decided yet)

Buy 2666-2800MHz 1.2V.

I actually bought ddr4 3000 g.skill ram. As for cpu my thought was the 6500 will be a nice upgrade to my current q8400 and in couple years more processors will be out with even better price/performance ratio.

If you havent made the purchase yet, I have heard good things about the EVGA GQ series and the 850 is only about 100 bucks.

GQ has 5 years warranty though, while G2 and RMx have 10 years warranty.

The EVGA GQ series is made by FSP Group while the G2 series is a Seasonic rebrand if I'm not mistaken.

I got a great deal on the P2 back in September. The day I received it fron NG it was on shell shocker sale. I called them up and they gave me store credit which I used to get my memory cheaper. So far I love the EVGA PS so far. I cannot even hear it.

Grats, but I would have spent a few more bucks for the G2/P2/T2.

RMx is on par with G2, if not slightly better in some respects. P2 and T2 are both much more expensive but not really worth it, all you get is more efficiency which will probably not pay back the initial cost difference even during 10 years
