My server recently got its turn at the 36 hour downtime for maintenance... *twitch* ...and during that time I played a mage on the public test realm. Full rank 14 gear with the rest filled in by BWL+ calilber stuff - 4600 hp mage :Q Anyway, in comparison to my elemental shaman in lesser gear, I found the mage to be disappointing. At 536 spell damage, 8% spell crit and 6% spell hit, I ended up dying a lot - granted everyone else was in the same gear. To nuke just a little harder, it cost me 3500 armor and a lot of cast time - talented, Chain Lightning is a 1.5s cast with a 6s cooldown and Lightning Bolt is a 2.0s cast with no cooldown (each does around 850 noncrit with 425 passive lightning damage, 1k with toep up). Granted having more than one spell school is nice when you get counterspelled, but it's as I said - they tried to get around equal dps by giving the "true" dps classes (like mages) more variety, and in reality it just doesn't work out, despite looking plausible on paper.

False, that title belongs squarely to warlocks. Shamans are definitely strong in PvP, warlocks are gods though.

Mage vs. Shaman power goes back to what I've been saying - as a pure dps class, mages damage has been nerfed to not be overpowered in PvP. But the devs went too far, and the versatility they replaced it with doesn't make up for the lackluster damage.

Note - you may not agree since, as a well geared rogue, you and warriors are the only classes that even have a chance against locks, and that's only if they're nub.

and i have more issues killing shamans that are geared then warlocks, the fact they they can instant cast snare you for nearly 2000 and then mele crit you for another 1-2k is just insane

that and all of them are orcs and cant fing be stunned

I hated orcs on my alliance rogue A shaman can spec elemental or melee but not both, I can frost shock crit you for almost 2k if I have the AB / WSG berzerking buff (my high was 1905, average 650/1300 crit), but my 41 dps dagger hits in the 100 melee range, with my massive 272 attack power Likewise if I were melee specced I wouldn't have Elemental Fury, which doubles the crit bonus from 50% to 100% - enhancement shamans frost shock in the 500+ range, crits for 800ish. I can't say who I am, but I /wave when I see ya and I'm on Muradin - grats on 13, I'm hitting 10 next week myself. Not sure if I'll continue past 12, but it's likely.

I only have one priest on a pvp server, but I have 5 total. Two 60's, 2 around 50, and 1 just started around 45. I quit and come back to WoW now and then, and like rolling on new servers.

For PVE, most people will say hunters rule, but I disagree. Shadow spec'ed I can take on 3 mobs 3 levels over me easily, and I have hit 60 on one priest in 6 days 4 hours played almost totally solo'ing (except instances). You just need to find mobs you can down quick without using alot of mana, and disregard quests entirely. I farmed the Timbermaw firbulgs in Felwood and leveled from 57-60 in less than 2 days, hardly ever had to rest (spirit tap + smart use of spells), and found quite a few blues/purples to boot.

For PVP, priests absolutely rule (shadow). In battlegrounds, I consistenly have the most honorable kills, and I can change how I want to play on the fly... feel like killing or helping others by healing. Undead priests are the best imo, with Devouring Plague (racial) + Shadow Word Pain + Will of the Forsaken (free fear/etc break); you can hit incredible damage per second with extra +shadow damage this way without worrying about melee characters running through you to disrupt your spells (line of sight).

Go engineering with a priest and get the Gnomish Net-O-Matic Projector and watch people cry Nerf Priests! Ive done tailoring and alchemy, but this one item far outshines paying for pot's when your in pvp. Also you can make a shield belt which acts like Power Word Shield, and other items that can make you really a force to be reckoned with.

Your biggest worry besides extremely well decked out rogues as a horde priest is warlocks. As alliance add shamans to the list. Horde wins hands down for a priest (undead) imo, and my one alliance dwarf priest can't compare to my undead ones.

Raiding is boring as priest however, as a poster mentioned above, but you'll never have to look far for a group.

They will kill you fast. I usually die because they fear me, throw a dot up on me, get a demon on me, and then shadow bolt me. Unless you have a quick heavy DPS class good luck with a Warlock one on one.

Lol... the other day I popped EM/ToEP and hit a warlock for 2200 with chain lightning - mind you, he had no idea I was there. My followup lightning bolt critted for 2200. At this point he was still around 25% - he hit death coil and was at 30-35%, and while I was DC'd he laid a few dots on me. Then he feared me, then nailed me for a 3298 shadowbolt. I have 4k hp at most, depending on which gear I'm using, so that pretty much ended it. Granted, this guy definitely outgeared me (my guild is just starting out in BWL, he was aq40+), but it goes to show you that even if you catch them by surprise and get a lucky crit, and even if they're not SL spec (the overpowered warlock PvP spec) they can cremate you.

I haven't played in a couple months, so I'm not quite up-to-date on what patches have done, but I really enjoyed playing as a Druid. Right up to 60 (when I quit for the second time; I had a warrior up to 60 prior) I was able to heal equally as efficiently as most priests, sometimes moreso considering I had innervate (no longer a talent ability >.>), and I even did well in duels - I didn't do much damage as a restoration druid, but between having a lot of HP and armor in bear form and being able to instantly heal myself with nature's swiftness, plus the almost unlimited mana pool innervate can provide, I was able to outlast most other classes (although I had some problems with Rogues and occasionally warriors).

Kind of off topic, I know, but just my opinion.

Back to the topic real fast - I leveled a priest and played one from release till january of this year. My friend is just starting to get back into wow, and so i said i'd play with him. The only class i haven't really played to date is paladin, so i decided to give it a whirl.

OMG it sucks. I like healing, so I'm sure if i had a level 60 paladin, I would love playing. But in terms of leveling it? OMG, will this thing EVER kill anything? And before you say "yeayea, paladin dps is nothing compared to a shadow priests' leveling" you can't tell me that because I leveled as a Discipline priest at release

My priest I think is better at healing, and is way better at pumping out damage. I thought paladin would be like a low dps version of my priest with mail(plate) and a shield. And well... he's a no-dps version of my priest with mail(plate) and a shield.

I think i've even specced my paladin the 'leveling' dps build - getting SoC, and the crit talent, etc. It's still a rough rough ride.

back to off topic - nerf warlocks.

I got a paladin up to mid 50's and didn't really have much trouble until higher levels as far as dps goes. Maybe once you get commander is when you actually have some decent mid-level dps? I can't really remember it's been too long.

Undead can bust a fear without a felhunter out and levelling is a bit easier - cannibalize is a godly racial for locks. On the other hand, the only class which really even stands a little bit of a chance vs. a warlock is a rogue - so the additionaly 25% stun resist is nice too.

Yeah, I was thinking about the orc racial stun resist bonus. Explain why cannibalize is godly racial for locks. Because it regens 7% health every 2 sec, thus 35% total when activated?

canabalize restores a chunk of your health quickly.
warlocks are a mana class, but their primary stat is stamina. The more hitpoints, the better. The warlock being built around stam has an ability called LIFE TAP which turns health into mana.

Basically hit points are king, and warlocks can turn hit points into mana. Then an undead lock can eat a corpse to regain health (or mana as you can see).





Plus nothing says like "owned" like eating a guy.

I'm at 26 right now, dumping money into a better weapon every two levels. I'm not sure why it seems so damned slow. I'll admit, i'm impressed that the paladin can just slap a BoW and use SoCrusader / SoC combo and just grind indefinatley... it just takes a long time to kill each thing. I'll probably keep grinding on him, but man, it's rough trying to get him to kill things.

and Commander as in PVP Rank? Oh Man, i hope not When I played my priest in PvP groups we ignored the paladin, maybe mana burning him if he was healing too much. Only the best craziest geared paladins could hit for anything scary, and even then - was nothing compared to the warriors running at cloth. With few exceptions (and it still would go both ways) I'd almost always think it'd be far worse to fight shaman in group pvp vs paladins.

I forgot to mention - Orc Rogue are kinda cool since between Blood Fury (the ap bonus thing/reduction to healing) and the stun resistance = woooo. Orc warr is pretty neat too. I wish I could be an Orc or Tauren priest There is art in the book for Tauren Priestess, why blizz, why shaft us!

Every few fights you have a cooldown up which regenerates you health... for a class which can't heal itself, this alone is godly. For a class which converts hitpoints to mana at will, with no cooldown... omg :Q

Well, I tried to give WoW another go, but was disappointed to find out my new system works the same as my old system. Every time I turn in a quest, I get D/C from the WoW server, and my DSL gets killed as well. It's probably a confilict between WoW and my DSL modem. OH well.

I made an undead lock w/ herb and alchemy. Looks like a fun toon, too bad my DSL doesn't agree w/ WoW.

it might also be your network adapter - http://blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01686p3 - explains how to mess with a few features to get woW to run better. The checksum offload property was the one that fixed wow for me.

otherwise it might be your modem =\ best of luck
