Help me pick a tablet!

Price: ~1000 or less
size: 12" (the screen size... get your mind out of the gutter! 😉 )

I've been really debating between the Toshiba m750 and the HP tx2z because of the multi touch, led, capacitive screens. That seems NICE. Since I do a fair bit of graphic/web design work, I'd like good color rendering.

Any opinons?

Besides the led backlight, is there any reason why you're not considering a Thinkpad x61t tablet? The x200t has led backlighting. I believe the Thinkpad tablets use IPS lcd panels so the color rendition should be good. I think the x61t can be had for ~$1000 on a good deal.

I have an x61t and I like it, though I don't really use it for artistic uses. I like the colors and viewing angle and the sturdy feel of it. I definitely like the SXGA+ (1440x1050) resolution.
 
HP tx2 is very good indeed my friend bought one for basic animation work from black shops in Delhi "Not yet relesed in India" but is totally sensitive and overall lighter or better balanced than another lifebook at least felt that way.

tx2z doesn't have Wacom pressure sensitive tablet now afaik.

buzz. the correct answer is:

still has wacom active digitzer. just the touch screen has changed to capacitive tech. unfortunately nowhere near to approaching iphone functionality or reliability. they are probably waiting for windows 7 to provide the real solution.

i would have waited for the 2nd revision of the tx2, but the clearance sale at HP on the tz2500 for 600$ and free ship was too good to pass up.

the lcd on the HP is the weakest part, feels like last gen TN panel technology.

No, it has an active digitzer, but it uses N-trig duo-sense (for both pen & touch), not Wacom. It has pressure sensitive issues (though Photoshop works ok), though this might be a firmware/software glitch that can be fixed later on. The tablet pen doesn't have an eraser tip, like older tx2xxx series. So if you're doing art and such, it might be worthwhile finding the older tx2000z/tx2500z. I've seen them on woot for around $500-600 or so.

sorry should have just left out the wacom part.

the reviewer said the same pen "can't keep picking the pen up" about the tz2500. so the digitizer tech has the same faults. and the eraser on the tz2500 doesn't work on anything other than paint software that is made for it. so you don't lose that much in functionality in any windows functions. hell the eraser on my intuos doesn't work that well half the time either.
 
So, if I'm getting this right, the main differences between teh tx2z and the tx2500 are that the tx2z has multitouch and a brighter screen (LED and only one layer of digitizer), but for registering pressure the tx2500 might be better?

What about with Windows 7, which is what I plan on using.
 
Win 7 should have better support of multitouch, so it might be worth it for you to get a tx2z (depending on if you use touch or not, for me, I always use pen, touch screen is near useless for me).
 
actually, i don't anticipate using the finger touch a whole lot, but it is nice now and then. I do anticipate other people using it a lot though. I'm in architecture school and it'll be nice to be able to interact on the tablet w my professors and whatnot.
